Deadline’s reporting that Chronicle director Josh Trank has signed on to direct the Shadow of the Colossus film from Sony Pictures, after requesting the position. The report states writers are currently being interviewed. Trank, is apparently a very busy man: he’s supposedly discussing developing Fantastic Four for Fox and Spider-Man spinoff Venom for Sony Pictures, and is also reported to be working with Warner Bros on an adaptation of Red Star, so who knows how long it will be before SotC is released. A movie based on the Team ICO masterpiece has been in the pipeline Joystiq.

Weird. I remember him saying that he would be interested in directing something new.

From what i know he’s neither working on Venom, nor Fantastic Four. He’s ‘in talks’, which usually means nothing until confirmed.

This could become an abolutely epic masterpiece, or just rediclious.
Either way it will disappoint at least some fans, as a movie can never produce that effect on the player, that’s so important for Shadow of the Colossus and Silent Hill 2.
Both games influence the player in hours and hours of gameplay and bind the player to the avatar to create some special effects, that are important for each game’s meta-levels.

Still a movie can be interesting on its own. There is already a movie with at least one meta-level of Shadow of the Colossus. It’s called Reign Over Me. Some call it the worst movie with Adam Sandler others call it the only good one with him. I liked most of his movies and love this one for all of it’s Shadow-references.
