Aliens: Colonial Marines dated for February 12, 2013

Monday, 21st May 2012 14:04 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Gearbox has announced a February 12, 2013 launch for Aliens: Colonial Marines.

The shooter was originally due to launch this coming autumn, but this is the first time the game has been given a specific, written in stone release date.

“Our vision has been to create a video game sequel to the original Alien trilogy,” said Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford in a note on the developer’s website.

“Our vision is for the game to be fully featured with an exciting, suspenseful, thrilling and action packed narrative campaign that can be played alone or cooperatively combined with a robust competitive game where human players can take on the roles of Colonial Marines or Xenomorphs and do battle online. The game must be authentic.

“It must complement, but not re-tell the events of, the films. It must deliver an original story and fresh experience that, for those of us who grew up loving the Aliens films, builds and expands upon those events, but also stand on its own for those of us who may never have seen the movies.”

The new release date currently applies to the PS3, 360 and PC versions of the game: publisher Sega said in a press release it would announce a release date for the Wii U version “at a later time”.

We’re set to see it in London later this week, but in the meantime, get our last impressions of it here.

New trailer is below.

So much delays, I hope for their sake & the sake of entertainment that it turns out good.

It’s almost a guarantee that this game will seriously disappoint. So many delays i am actually sick of waiting for it.

I do too, specially with the amount of passion Randy Pitchford has for this title.

@2 Bioshocks already been knocked back, Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 is bound to disappoint too, Prey 2 will probably get knocked back because … PFFT it’s a sequel to Prey … and i never bothered with Metro 2033 so i won’t be giving the new one a look.

I can’t think of many games to look forward to towards the end of the year tbh. 2 or 3 but it’s lacking compared to previous years.

@6 Just because you don’t look forward to games in 2012 doesn’t mean its not busy month. That is reason why delayed Aliens.

Some of the earlier game play looked a bit crap and linear looking, but this new footage is a big improvement, at least in graphics and effects. I hope the game is not a simple linear corridor shooter, I get tired for them. I love the tight confines in the Aliens movies, but it would be nice to open up the game play a little, so that its less like AvP2010 and other games of that ilk and more a somewhat open world game like their Borderlands IP. That would be boss I reckon, especially cos the game is supposed to include some form of meta RPG like game play systems. Dead Island but on planet Acheron with xenos and colonial marines with guns would be fucking tremendous!

Bioshock, Metro: Last Light, Tomb Raider and now Aliens? Please stop it, can’t take it anymore!

j/k, know it usually means a better crafted game, but still, really looking forward to Tomb Raider and Bioshock.

Well, don’t even play many new games anymore. Really only UC3 and Dark Souls until I have to give it back. Maybe I’ll get more gaming done now that a shit ton of my TV shows are ending.

Hello Max Payne 3 and Diablo 3. :)
