S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-inspired Crysis mod to become standalone indie release
Owl Game Studio, a group made up of Russian modders, has announced its S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-inspired Crysis mod, CryZone: Sector 23, will be released as a full game using CryEngine 3.

The title first appeared on the radar back in February when the team was known as World of Stalker.
CryZone: Sector 23 is set in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe and tells the story of a man who has journeyed into a forbidden zone to find a Wishmaster who he hopes can resurrect his son.
New locations, destructible environments, new weapons and mutants will be included, along with healing system similar to the one included in Far Cry 2.
There’s no release date yet, and the game will not be a full commercial release due the “resources and settings” being pulled from GSC Game World’s S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

Heh.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. wasn’t profitable enough to be an ur-game, so future development of it got scrapped. Now it’s being handled by an independent team.
It’s oddly satisfying that I’m right all the time about this. It must be frustrating for people in a position of opposition to my viewpoints to see that almost every day there’s news on VG24/7 that completely supports my views and opinions.

@2, Stop saying crap. The only issue why STALKER development was scrapped is because the president of GSC shut everything down and he was tired of game development and in the end old GSC STALKER team could not use S.T.A.L.K.E.R. rights to continue it’s work.
then they made new studio and started at work with “Survarium” that will have some ideas from Stalker 2.
For f sake. Shut up about your “ur-game” thing. It’s irrelevant because you know shit.

@2 I can’t believe someone actually said that. I have never seen someone with such a big ego. I guess that’s the only thing that you can be proud of. Breaking the possible maximum.

@5 They need to ditch Stalker and fps and go back to their golden FPS glory days of Cossacks and the RTS genre!

I’d prefer the term Dur-game… As in it ticks all the boxes, so as to appeal to the lowest common denominator…
Like Crysis for example. Flashy graphics, repetitive gameplay with big guns, derivative story , with stereotypical characters (hi Pyscho!!), but pulled off with a certain flair that lets the masses forget all this

‘along with healing system similar to the one included in Far Cry 2.’
I never played FC2.
What healing system was that?

@2: No idea of what you are babbling about.
STALKER was *extremely* profitable, It sold tons of copies and made Sergei one of the richest men in his Country.
And NO ONE knows for sure why he stopped STALKER 2 development, but the funny thing is: it’s a very recent news (two days old) that he’s looking for financial partners to start the project again with a different team.
This “ur-game” crap you keep posting in every news (whatever it’s supposed to mean) doesn’t make any sense.
