Those stupid monkeys at GT never seize to amaze me with their moronic reviews. If this was an FPS it would get 9+ automatically. And am I the only one that got the strong feeling that they haven’t even played the first two games at all? I’m so tired of GT giving these bullshit reviews.

For my part I never get tired of seeing people who actually NEED a game to recieve a cetain score, and are absolutely outraged if it doesn’t read like everything else.
Maybe you should start a collection so you could buy the score you wanted… Oh wait, that would ruin the entire idea of a review. Kinda like expecting people to have the exact same opinion about a game.
Really, has Bobby Kotick managed to turn everyone into him?
What about the quality of the review and the argument for that score?
I guess you get the industry you deserve sometimes.

@52 Well reading IGN’s review for example, regardless of score, the way it is written I thought to myself a lot of members on here could of done a better job at writing an actual review. It read like a waiting for a train conversation.

No Eurogamer review yet?
I kinda like the Euro reviews for the most part.
IGN I watch the review but take no notice of there score.
I bought a few too many 9 or 10 games off there review,s to realise that they have very little credibility with there scoring IMHO.

Lets me honest dudes and dudettes, the review system is unfortunately ruined by retarded reviews from retarded websites. It’s extremely hard to find a website that will give you a 100% non-biased, non-contradicting, no-bs review. Because the only way you can truly give a good review is if the reviewer can position themself outside of their own mind and look at it as it is, a game and nothing more. No personal feeling involved.

@60 I couldn’t disagree more. A critic should call is as he sees it, and let you know why in a way that’s clearly understood.
A critic who agrees with everyone else is by nature irrelevant. He has no value to anyone. If people can read 50 other reviews with your exact opinion, and your exact focus, then obviously you’re not worth reading.
I don’t see how you can ever get a better product by asking people to lie to themselves and deny everything they’re seeing and feeling. The point of a review should be the exact opposite, the truth as seen by the reviewer.

I’d say that the only thing thats ruined the review process is the fact very average games still manage to score 8 & 9′s because a 6 is see as a 2 and a 7 as a 5. Its no wonder people call foul when a great game gets an 8 because utter trash scores round about the same too.

@64 Not unless you were being sarcastic
The critics I want to read are the guys who have an opinion that isn’t shaped or affected, by however the internet is feeling. It’s not about catering to the majority, or pleasing anyone.
It’s about playing a game, feeling it, and telling people what you feel, without making excuses for either yourself, or the game. Merely “guessing” what people might like on their behalf, makes a critic a hack and an amateur.
I can guess for myself, I don’t need Mr Reviewer to do that for me. I need him to form an opinion and apply himself to the game, so I can reflect my own hopes and fears in his hopefully well written review.
In journalism you always strive to be unbiased, but you’d do well to be aware that you never truly are. It’s really only in gaming that people want an agreement or “objectivity” (which really means telling them exactly what they expect) when it comes to reviews. I’ve never seen it anywhere else. In literature and movies, the biggest critics are the ones who stand out, not the ones who go along.
And really, few games reviewers are able to make their mark. I have no idea who those countless 9/10′ers are, and I don’t care. But I’d be interested in knowing who Mr 5/10 is, in this case. He probably has something to say that I wouldn’t hear anywhere else.

After reading all these comments about scores and what constitutes as a worthy score its becoming obvious that a numbered score is so coming of age.
I mean, you don’t state a numbered score when talking to a mate about a game you recently purchased do you, you clearly mention if its worth getting or not… or even renting.
What really is the difference between an 7 a 7.5 or an 8?
Fuck all in all honesty!

For everyone asking about Eurogamer, they are blacklisted by R* due to their awful, amateurish reviews, so they’ll just have to buy the game like everyone else on Friday and review it then.

@70 Get it right. Eurogamer are blacklisted by a childish Rockstar because they ‘only’ gave RDR 8/10. I’d say that reflects far worse on Rockstar than Eurogamer. Also means the EG review is the only one you can trust as they’re not scared.

@72 I don’t know what it says for trust, but honestly, awarding the game a score that is only 20% away from utter perfection isn’t that brave.
Brave would be if they thought it was 5/10 – Again, not saying that’s warranted, but 8/10 is still a stellar score, and when everybody else is occupying the top 25% of the scale, joining them can hardly be considered brave.
Personally I think Eurogamer is pretty irrelevant, and home to some of the most terrible reviews I’ve ever read. I don’t know if Bramwell was editing through all of them, but he was doing a shit job of it if so.

i don´t know. so many games, especially shooters, have been so mediocore lateley. i am not really complainign (ha-compainIGN -funny typo) there still are more great games than i can play, but with all these over the top big time marketing aaa titles…they seem to become more and more lazy assed designed. seems to be the case here too. i am not that impressed with the gameplay footage, esp. the multiplayer. i am playing sly cooper 3 hd atm. it´s great to play this again. i´m actually thinking about skipping max payne/ or buy later and get the sly, jak + daxter, upcoming ratchet and clank hd collections instead.

@73 You seem confused by the concept of reviews. There’s no such thing as a ‘right’ review it’s just an opinion. That’s what’s correct, not an opinion that’s been influenced by outside factors.
I didn’t say 8/10 was a brave score, Rockstar spitting the dummy over it just makes them childish and cheapens the industry as a whole.

Well, Eurogamer has some decent contributors, but in my view the site as a whole is really unreliable and inconsistent. I would not blame ANY publisher who gets frustrated with them for their lack of professionalism.

@75 That’s pretty much my whole point.
It was the notion that it “Also means the EG review is the only one you can trust as they’re not scared.”
I don’t see any proof of that, especially not based on that example.

@60, I agree with you for the most part but reviews are opinions & thus should be done from their own perspective, if someone has a problem with the genre or franchise, they shouldn’t be doing a review in the first place, however you don’t want to hear from a fan of the franchise either, either way- that’s when you hit extremes in reviews. So yes, a review should be non-biased, non-contradicting, no-bs but from someone’s own perspective, not what they think that others would think, otherwise you get mediocre games scoring 8s.
I personally prefer the way movies are reviewed, critics are actually doing their jobs, being critical, great movies score like 7-8/10 while only true masterpieces ever get full marks.

@68 How can you disagree with me when you’re pretty much just rewording what I said?
I’m saying reviewers shouldn’t be bs and should review the game for what they game is. If you get reviewers to add their personal opinions you unfortunately get the reviewer idiots over at IGN and GT. If a reviewer looks and plays the game from an outside view they’ll get the true view of the game.
Think of it this way, if a 60year old has played 100games and he reviews a game he’ll compare it and compare it and compare it to other games. If a 10year old reviews a game and it’s his first game then he’ll review the game for what it truly is. (Granted they’re both into games
because if they wouldn’t be then the reviews would be fulled of shit because the person would get their personal feelings into it by saying games are stupid
)

Eurogamer reviews are all garbage. I mean how can they give RDR an 8/10 and give MW3 an 8/10 as well? Rockstar games have every right to blacklist eurogamer (I can’t find any article about this, the only one I find is about 2k blacklist eurogamer for duke nukem). GT is ok, some of their reviews are quite good but some are really terrible. The games uk msn is terrible. I mean who the hell reviewed did the person even have a brain. And did they even put any effort at all to write the review. I never really care about eurogamer since a lot of their reviews are garbage and terrible. Gt is alright but they messed up some of their reviews badly and I’ve never heard of games uk msn and I don’t care about them because they are garbage and terrible.
Max Payne 3 is a AAA title as it got majority 9/10 scores. I consider 8/10 to be a good score that says a game is GREAT or AWESOME but of sourse some people may see differently. Again eurogamer sucks and their reviews are terrible. And R* have every right to blacklist them.
