Republique hits $500k Kickstarter target with hours to go

Camouflaj and Logan Games have passed their $500,000 Kickstarter target for iOS stealth survival game Republique.

The current total stands at $501,294 with just six hours to go before funding stops. Fundraising ends at 11pm tonight BST, but Camouflaj can now go into full development knowing the target’s been met.

The Kickstarting began early last month from the studio, founded by ex-Kojima Productions and 343 alumni Ryan Payton, but funding began slowly enough.

It wasn’t until the announcements of a PC and Mac version, as well as the involvement of Metal Gear Solid cast David Hayter and Jennifer Hale, that business began to pick up.

The studio intends to livestream the end of funding online tonight.

I did not expect to see that headline.

50 dollar average contribution. That’s a pretty high average.

Most expensive iOS game ever?

@DSB that! Something is horribly wrong here… Either he creates a game for PC/Mac or and an iOS spinoff but then, didn’t he wanted to create an outstandnig iOS game? And how far can he come with “just” $500k for such hightech platforms?

Kickstarter is going to take 5% of that.

@6

Actually no they don’t. When the game is released the person has to then put 5% of the profits towards another kickstarter.

@7 there is a difference between kickstarter website, and “kicking it forward” initiative.

@manamana Well, it gets even worse than that (at least from your perspective) since 500k is only what they need to get started; they’re estimating 1 million or more is what’s going to be required to actually finish the game. As stated on the Kickstarter page, the studio plans on getting the other half of the money from *other* sources…

Yup, in the fine print it says they can not start development yet. This 500.000 was just part of the funding, to prove to investers that there was intrest in the title and to keep the IP for themselfs when they try and raise the rest of the capital needed to actaully develop the game. Wich is another 500.000 .

I seriously doubt an investor(s) are going to waste their money on investing 500k for an iOs app most development spends 25k-50k for iOS development and these guys think that 1 million is needed. I am curious to see if this will actually happen.

It’s not hard to make your goal when every gaming site has decided to do an hourly play-by-play on the last hours of your campaign because you’re the “chosen one”.

(7 seperate posts on this site alone)

I hope they will do the same for other Kickstarter projects, but I doubt it somehow.

Maybe take a look here, and at others – http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/malevolence/malevolence-the-infinite-rpg
