BioShock Infinite delayed to February 26, 2013
2K has announced that BioShock Infinite will miss its October resale date and instead launch worldwide on February 26, 2013.

Irrational’s Ken Levine has this to say regarding the delay:
“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing. Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary.
“Therefore, to give our talented team the time they need, we’ve decided to move the game’s release to February 26, 2013. We wanted to let our loyal (and very patient!) fans know this as soon as possible.
“I won’t kid you: BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we’re doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter. We had a similar experience with the original BioShock, which was delayed several months [from] our original ship date drew near. Why? Because the Big Daddies weren’t the Big Daddies you’ve since come to know and love. Because Andrew Ryan’s golf club didn’t have exactly the right swing. Because Rapture needed one more coat of grimy Art Deco.
“The same principle now applies to BioShock Infinite.
“What does this mean for you? It means a bit more waiting, but more importantly, it means an even better BioShock Infinite. The great can be made greater, and we owe it to both ourselves and to you, our fans, to take this opportunity. Irrational Games is one of those rare developers lucky enough to ask the people who sign the checks: ‘Hey, can we have a few more of those checks?’
“We are also going to hold off on showing BioShock Infinite at the big events of the summer, like E3 and Gamescom. That way, the next time you see our game, it will be essentially the product we intend to put in the box. Preparing for these events takes time away from development, time we’re going to use instead to get the best version of Infinite into your hands in February.”
News of the delay caused shares in Take-Two to tumble 6% to $12.62. Shares in the firm on NASDAQ closed Tuesday, May 8 at $13.41.
Infinite was originally slated for release on October 16 in the US and October 19 in the UK for PC, Ps3, and Xbox 360.

Disappointed that I’ll need to wait an extra 4 months, but it’ll perform better commercially in this new time frame. Also, it was dumb of them to announce the game as an October release in the first place.
Edit: Just saw the statement. Sounds like BS.

Fair enough, no point releasing a game if you’d don’t feel it’s finished.

That’s good. Maybe we’ll financially survive this year after all.

Depends how far down the road R* are with it really. Whilst i’d certainly love to see it this year, I don’t see them rushing the title just to fill the opening left by Bioshock: Infinite.
History has repeatedly shown us that GTA makes it’s own opening.
If I had to guess beyond that though, I would still reckon March/April 2013 – for a nice boost to their shiny new FY figs.

I think GTA will still release April/May 2013. There’s been too little coverage for it to release this year.

That was my other thought too.
Additionally, GTA has always marched to the beat of it’s own drummer and nobody elses.
GTA V doesn’t need the October slot to sell fuckloads, but it might very well need the additional time and polish to make it the game we all expect.

Any relation to the Bioshock Vita release you think?

I was always under the impression that the Vita release was playing second fiddle to Infinite in terms of developmental priority (I believe Ken Levine said so much himself only a few days ago).
By proxy, it’s probably quite reasonable to infer that the Vita Bioshock title is even further away now, since the extra time that they’re generating from the delay will be used on Infinite and not the Vita title.

Goddamit. Well, hopefully this means an already sweet looking game will be sweeter when it’s released.

Bioshock one was a great game
Bioshock 2 sucked huge Ass
Bioshock:Infinite – Best luck to the team.
My question is, VITA version of Bioshock will be released this year or no?

Am I the only guy who loved BioShock 2? I prefer the original, but can still say I really enjoyed 2.

Nope, Bioshock probably won’t release on Vita this year. Ken Levine already said that development wouldn’t start properly on Bioshock Vita until Infinite gets wrapped up.
Seeing as Infinite won’t be finished until February next year, I don’t think we’ll be seeing Bioshock Vita this year at all.
@15
April 2013 – get in line with the rest of us

@16: You are not alone. In many aspects the second one was a better game. It just didn’t have the novelty of the first Bioshock. But the narrative and consequence system was great.

#13 – Guess the Vita version is 2014 then
, unless the developers have been sneakily working on it in a back room.

@16 Nope, you are definitely not the only one, sure the story wasn’t up there with the 1st one but the shooting mechanics and using plasmids were much more refined and those Big Sisters did creep me out at times.

Man, I cannot wait for this game, it sucks that we won’t be seeing anymore of it till the end of the year either. I guess though that its worth the wait.
#13 Bioshock 2 wasn’t made by Ken levine or even irrational games. It was made by 2k Marin.
Even though the Minerva’s Den DLC is meant to be incredible It was made by Steve Gaynor (from Idle thumbs fame) and other people at 2k Marin who have now started they’re own company called The Full Bright Company. So look for probably some great games from this company to come.

Nooooooooooooo, but if it makes it the game it deserves to be than okay. I guess it’ll have to be Diablo 3, Aliens: CM and XCOM until then.

Balls….
Was really looking froward to this, surely he may as well wait and put it out on the next gen machines with a bump up for the framerate and textures if it’s going to be out next year now?!
I wish they wouldn’t even bother saying a release date, every game seems to change there dates around so much it just gets annoying. Nothing wants to go up against COD , even big names as they end up cannabilising each other.
If MS announce there new machine at E3 with a Christams or early 2013 release date it will be interesting to see if Halo 4, Bioshock and GTA will offer some kind of upscaling feature

Not going to happen MS still has plans for kinect and they aren’t going to overshadow their own franchises with an announcement and a release of a new console. 2013 E3 is most likely when they will announce the next system.

Can’t wait for the fallout, when even that *exclusive* is announced as a multi… With a 3 month exclusivity deal with MS on any dlc no doubt

That’s a damn shame. This is one of the few mainstream games I’ve been looking forward to due to how incredibly out of left field it is. Oh well, now I get to look forward to it in 2013. More time to dedicate to GW2, I guess, which I am completely okay with.

Why not fkn release it in 2014 kevin? give it a extra year on top of that and have it release on next gen consoles ,so it looks and runs better! or more time to make a better world! i hate delays , why bother announcing a release date if your not sure it should be done by then? it gets everyone excited then pissed off. the real reason why it’s delayed is because gta 5 will be releasing then. It makes sense, since 2k games is a subsidary of take two, which owns rockstar games, hint gta5. Obviously they don’t want both games clashing, as gt5 will overshadow bioshock infinite.

It could have to do with GTA V, like Kuwabara said…2K games is a subsidary of Take Two. I for one am dissappointed, was looking so forward to this one.
