Diablo III director shut down discussions of perspective change

If the idea of a non-isometric game bearing the Diablo game fills you with horror and outrage, you’re not alone; the game’s director is right on board.

During Diablo III’s development, someone floated the idea of making a different kind of game to the two previous instalments, both isometric dungeon crawlers. Game director Jay Wilson told games.on.net he stomped on the suggestion before it grew legs.

“Very early on in the process we had some people who argued that we should not make the game isometric,” he said.

“That it would be better technology, more modern, if we made a third or first-person game.

“I really would have nothing of it.”

Wilson seem to emphasise that Diablo III’s perspective is one of the things that makes it unique.

“For me a camera is not a technology choice, there’s more than enough first and third-person games out there,” he said.

Diablo III releases on May 15. That’s only a small number of days away. Is your PC ready?

    Technically Diablo 1 & 2 uses a dimetric projection since only two of the angles between axis are equal.
