Company of Heroes 2 on Eastern Front, out “early 2013″
THQ’s confirmed Company of Heroes 2 for a 2013 release, saying the game will take place on the Eastern Front of WWII.

Company of Heroes 2 will take place on the Eastern Front of WWII, THQ said today, and will challenge players “to take command of the iconic Red Army and repel the Nazi invaders from the very gates of Moscow.”
The PC RTS will Relic Entertainment’s state of the art proprietary Essence 3.0 Engine “to bring new technological advancements to the strategy genre in the form of innovative Dynamic Battle Tactics, increased graphical fidelity and new environmental destruction, ultimately putting the player in control with new Commander Abilities.”
Greg Wilson, Producer at Relic Entertainment commented, “Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success.”
The game had been previously leaked through a mag scan.

@2 has the game been released yet? No. This game will probably be fucking awesome like the original was and that looked superb.

@3 Nope, but the game does have a screenshot out, and it looks pretty shoddy.

Doesn’t look that bad to me. It actually feels kinda decent and knowing Relic, the final game will probably look awesome.

@5 It doesn’t say anything for the quality of the actual game, but it’s really just this:

There’s little or nothing to really distinguish it from the previous one, beyond slightly tweaked effects and higher res textures.
A shot like that is supposed to make you excited. Fair enough if it works for you guys, but to me it looks like the same old game.
It’s not neccesarily a bad thing, Company of Heroes still holds up today, but given that it looks almost exactly like the old game, it just doesn’t excite me.
I don’t know what to expect. In my opinion Relic are way behind the curve when it comes to delivering the kind of games they were 6 years ago. Between Space Marine, Dawn of War II and Tales of Valor, I just don’t see much to say that they’ve really gone anywhere since then.

Relic have a top pedigree of graphic sex. They could have done what some studios do and release ‘bullshots’ but this is just one screen to go with the announcement – long way to go and I am wet with excitement

I could see how in terms of leap, it’s not the giant step COH1 was but I think the new one does look better than previous one / the screen you posted.
Agree with Space Marine in terms of visuals though. It had really crowded fight scenes but that was it. The rest was lame corridors and stuff like that. Such a shame. That game had a neat story and some fun combat mechanics but the level design and many other aspects were mediocre at best.
