Video preview demonstrates in-game editor for Portal 2

A video preview of the Perpetual Testing Initiative DLC for Portal 2 has been released by Steam user Doogiehoogie. It’s posted below. The DLC allows users to create, share, and play Portal 2 puzzles using the puzzle maker. Users can then publish maps to the Steam Workshop so that others can browse, vote on, and select to play them. Selected puzzles will automatically be downloaded and installed inside Portal 2. It releases on PC and Mac May 8.

@1 Well damn it. :( I hate when that happens. I have “unslotted” it and will leave it on the page in case it pops back up.

@2 IMHO Half-Life 2 is the most overrated game of all time. Don’t get me wrong, played the hell out of the game but I can’t see what’s so extraordinary about this game!

great pacing for one. in fact, probably the best example of pacing in a video game. there’s a reason people analyze it to death, because there’s so much to learn from it.

then there’s the writing that is well above the standard for video games. you don’t have to cringe every time a character opens its mouth.

original and interesting art style. no need to elaborate.

the level design (which includes the aforementioned pacing) is also excellent. valve are incredibly talented at guiding and teaching the player without being too explicit, elaborating and forcing.

sound design. music. etc. there’s a lot more to say on each of those points, but you should get the idea. if you still disagree, maybe you should read some design articles about it and play it again. i don’t think you would still find it overrated.

In terms of graphics and mechanics, Half-Life 2 was fairly underwhelming compared to the original, but it had tonnes of variety, and it kept throwing gimmicks at you.

That’s what made it worthwhile for me. It wasn’t Half-Life: The Second Coming or anything.

I think that honor goes to Bioshock, at least in terms of bringing you into the world.

@2

Because it doesn’t have guns, massive explosions, violence, and sexual objectification?

Frankly, considering what it is, I’d honestly say it’s still underrated. We need more games like Portal 2, not less.

@8 typical response as always, and no its not cause it doesnt have guns and shit its because it has the shittest banter and the most repetitive gameplay there is and plus the games easy as hell anyways
