PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale out this holiday

It’s official: PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale has been announced on GameTrailers TV from Superbot Entertainment for PlayStation 3. Full details and GTTV episode inside.

PlayStation All Stars: Battle Royale is rumour no more. The fighter, speculated to be in the works since last year, has made its official bow on GameTrailers TV.

Superbot Entertainment is developing the title, having been created internally from Sony Santa Monica to make the game. Gameplay, as expected, is similar to that of Super Smash Bros, and is running at 60FPS.

Spotted in the show are gameplay stages themed around God of War, Buzz, LittleBigPlanet, Patapon and Ratchet & Clank.

The first characters are also to set to be announced during the episode, but spotted already are Kratos, Parappa the Rapper, Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal, Fat Princess, Colonel Radec from Killzone and Sly Racoon.

Third-party characters will make an appearance in the game, a la SSB Brawl, but those involved are yet to be announced. More details will be announced at E3 in nearly five weeks time.

Battle Royale launches this holiday for PS3. Watch the full reveal from the GTTV episode, more video and first screens below.

I saw it and it looks like crap in 60 frames per second. Wow. Such an achievement.

They also confirmed that there will be 3rd party characters in the game.

It seems exactly like S Smash Bros but with Sony characters, and that’s a good thing, I know some friends that like a lot SSMB who will be glad with this game if they pull it right.

It’s not just the same game, but even UI is from Smash Bros (with health and “Super” bar exception).

Radec’s special is exactly the same like with Solid Snake. I’m actually shocked that they copied the game completely.

@2,3: yea it really is super sony smash bros.
they bought a license from nintendo right? if not nintendo should probably sue them.
nintendo gets copied by both ms and sony a lot…and mostly badly. the spark is always missing. mod nation racers is not bad but not a mario kart killer. i still kinda liked the gameplay footage shown here.
will keep an eye on this one for sure. kind of like the backgrounds. played a lot of these games…

@5, Ah, the American way: Something looks similar, sue them! Nintendo don’t own the fighting genre & Sony owns most of the characters & have already obtained the rights to any 3rd party owned guys. Sure Ninty could try & sue for its likeness, but chances are that their are other games of similar style before SSB. I mean if you were the creators behind Doom (or whatever the first fps was), that shouldn’t automatically mean that every other fps needs to pay royalties for it.

@6, It’s not one thing it’s all these little things that makes everyone feel like Sony is trying to copy the competition, and it’s not even a “let’s copy it and make it much better” it’s let’s just copy it and sell it to the masses.

They have every right to copy every shit they want like with their shitty tablets and then sell “Zero” of them.

Sony has a huge variety of development studios. Couldn’t one of them have come up with a unique fighting game formula?

Well, 4 billion loss is a good start i guess.

Wah wah wah. I bet these comments were written yesterday and saved in a notepad to be copy & pasted once the game was shown.

We havent even seen a collective 2mins of the game yet, but i guess we already know everything about it.

People asked for a game like this, Sony delivered. They didnt want a new fighting game, they wanted Sony Smash Bros. Jeesh, dont you people visit games forums?

Well I didn’t hear anyone but the Nintendo faithful complain about Sony’s early Crash Team Racing(8.8 on metacritic, 9.4 in user ratings) which was clearly inspired by Mario Kart.

Wow, this is even a bigger and more shameless clone than Move. Seriously, they could have at least tried a more 3D look like Power Stone. This is pretty much SSB.

Looks fuckin’ awesome!!
Who cares if it’s a clone of SSB, SSB is also awesome!!

@10

I assume Kaz’s special will be him saying RRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER, followed by cars flying across the screen.

@8 You are right, that’s what people wanted, and I think it’s good since there’s no other game like this on PS3.

There are a lot of examples of companies copying each other concepts, it’s no case..

@12, Power Stone is 3D brawler, but if they could copy that formula there would be less complain and with 3D mode PS3 could show a potential.

But here is a serious 2D Rip Off with the same Nintendo brawler UI. It’s not “was clearly inspired by Mario Kart” blah blah blah.

From a business perspective it’s a bland, typical Sony Move. “they have it, let’s join them” and sell in the end nothing.

Hmm, remember that shitty Move game… Move Heroes? That thing sucked and sold really bad to begin with. Because there was no soul except for pathetic Rip Off.

Playstation All Stars Battle Royale – Even the logo has a “cashed in” feel to it.

@16, All I can say to that is something a little similar to what I said earlier: Crash Team Racing. A game of critical acclaim & sold around five million copies- simply an excellent game in its own right despite having obvious’sources of inspiration’ but calling it a cheap knock off is ignorant & simply degrading to the team that made it.

@18, They aren’t as relaxed as you think, they maybe humble when someone takes a game they made & makes it something different, which I respect, but they are often on the attack of blatant rip offs, emulators & other forms of piracy like those R4 cards, which you can’t really fault them for.

@19…it is too early to say something about this game…but on first sight it really really totally looks like smash bros, just with sony mascots and backgrounds. it really looks like a copy paste job.
i still like the idea of having such a game for the ps3.! smash bros is so awesome. i am still interested in the game.

@20: thx for the link!
really sounds like sony changed some stuff in the gameplay department.
can´t wait to check it out myself.

I absolutely love the way gamers are trippin over themselfs fighting with one another that this is similar to SSB LOL

Its a little pathetic really. You dont hear people claim COD is a rip off of DOOM do you. Fuck me, gamers are so fuckin fickle its crazy!!!

Its safe to say this game is built for the fans. Plain and simple.

Is it just me or does the game look like it’s running on the same engine as SSBB? O_o I mean, the graphics are quite similar and well everything else. Sure, if they manage to pull this off and make a decent game then good for Sony seeing as they could need some good exclusives at the time. Altough I gotta say it sure looks like a rip off with nothing new to the table though time will tell…

Good thing Sony made a MOVE like this. Because we all know that Ninetendo games and Wii/WiiU are just for young kids and housewives. So bravo for Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale! I am sure that it will be far more mature and really deliver that Core game experience that can only be found on a PS3.

Whats funny to me are the fans. Its great to diss the Wii. But when Sony clones another Wii experience, the game gets praise and anticipation by the same fans? Don’t talk about fanboys around here, your glass house could shatter from all of the stones flying around.

@30 they all copy from each other, if its a good idea and consumers want it, why not? it looks better than what I thought it would be to be honest.

@31 you getting a wii u ? would love a new starfox game for it.

Yep day, going to be a day one pick up for me, The WiiU I mean.

I would likly grab StarFox if and when it comes out. I really want a new Zelda and a new F-Zero. But truthfuly I am looking forward to most of Nintendos first party line up.

@16 ‘Hmm, remember that shitty Move game… Move Heroes? That thing sucked and sold really bad to begin with. Because there was no soul except for pathetic Rip Off.’

I don’t think the game sold badly because it had no soul, it sold badly because it was a bad game. Poorly implemented mini games and not much to tie it all together.

I can’t wait for this. I don’t care if people say “it’s a smash bros rip-off”. Smash bros is a good game, and playstation fans have wanted this for a long time. Companies copy each other all the time. The move took the wii controller to the next level. The kinect took the eye toy to the next level. It’s not just games either, it happens with lots of things. If something is popular then it will be copied. We wouldn’t have a lot of great games if people didn’t copy each other. Stop crying!

#42

lexph3re
27/04/12, 3:23 pm

I think it’s funny. In order to be a smash rip off doesn’t it have to have “Smash” components? There’s no smash attacks, no board drops, no flying off the screen. The only thing that is similar is the 2D design in which that’s not similar either. Sure seeing 4 characters fighting on the screen evokes the “Smash Familiars” but does that make it smash? Nope.

The game is Combo heavy and Super’s execute their kills. And when their hit they disintegrate. Come on guys can we quite with the BS I have to call X a ripoff because I like Y? It’s really unfitting towards your personalities. Make’s for little diversity in the gaming community XD

@42 ok then every cod is different then, different guns, campaign, camos on guns, different maps, character design and different spec ops/zombies…… just because they have changed minor things its still going to feel like cod and thats going to be the same for this mess of a game and whats funny is that i remember most sony fanboys saying that ssb is a kiddie fighting game but its mature as hell when sony make it….

#44

ManuOtaku
27/04/12, 3:50 pm

I dont mind if it borrows some elements from super smash brother, and i think that is quite good, becuase developers always have to look and / or aim at the greatest games, and i think smash is a great game, therefore if they took some things that is really great.

What i dont like is the attitude of some gamers that criticize and/or indicate that smash brothers is a kiddie game, that is not their kind of game, basecally they dont like it because is a nintendo tittle, but when something similar or in the same vein arrives in their predilected system, then turns out that is the greates thing ever, that is what i dont understand, ***scratchs head***, dont get me wrong, iam glad that you will be receiving this kind of game on your predilected console, and i will be getting this also, as i got SSMB, but please restrain from trashing the nintendo tittle at the same time, it doesnt look coherent IMHO.

lexph3re

There’s a difference in a feel and the general execution. Your comparison used the same game and made a statement as if it we’re suppose to be different. CoD isn’t suppose to differ by much as the sss(super smash series) isn’t suppose to differ by much. This on the other hand has a completely different feel to it and brand new in some respects. And as all the preview videos state it DOES NOT FEEL LIKE SMASH.

And I am often called a Sony fanboy(which im not they just deliver the things i want) and I played Smash competitively with friends and tourneys and know the game had a great meta game level to it and still does (not so much brawl). So your generalizing statement kinda eludes the perspective I’m tackling by stating this game is obviously going to be different from smash

@47: Opponents not defeated by Ring outs and instead defeated by Super Moves which are charged by attacks,
A level that gets built as you play on it, promptly followed by a section where you have to answer questions while fighting or you’ll be clocked by the level.

I don’t see the problem in being a SSB clone, Hudsonsoft did one first, plus we’ve also had a TMNT one and a Cartoon Network one. What does it matter that Sony are doing one as well? As far as I can tell, you’re dredging up a similar argument to that what you’re complaining about Sony fanboys calling SSB kiddy (something I have never done, had a lot of fun with SSB).
You’re on the outside looking in, and as it’s Sony you’re bitching about them doing their own take on a particular ip. If they want to have a crack, let them. If you don’t want it, don’t buy it. No-one’s making you, you know?
