Star Trek Online, Champions Online accounts unlawfully accessed

Cryptic Studios has asked all Star Trek Online and Champions Online account holders to check and reset their details after discovering an unauthorised intrustion.

In an email sent to affected account holders - even those who registered and never followed through - Cryptic and Perfect World asked users to reset their passwords.

More urgently, it asked users to secure accounts utilising shared usernames, email adresses or passwords.

The request comes as a result of the discovery of an unauthorised access of account details in December 2010, evidence of which was discovered in a recent routine maintenance check.

Cryptic stresses that it has no indication that financial or other sensitive user data was obtained, and notes that any password obtained were encrypted.

Cryptic will continue to investigate the incident, and asks all players and past account holders to be particularly vigilant against email and log-in scams.
