Valve quashes Tim Cook visit rumour

Friday, 20th April 2012 02:04 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Gabe Newell has put to bed the one about Apple visiting Valve.

Speaking to Seven Day Cooldown in an upcoming podcast, as reported by Kotaku, the Valve boss said he hadn’t had any visitors from Apple, least of all CEO Tim Cook.

“No one here was meeting with Tim Cook or with anybody at Apple that day. I wish we were. We have a long list of things we’d love to see Apple do to support games and gaming better,” he said.

“But no, we didn’t meet with Tim Cook. He seems like a smart guy, but I’ve never actually met him.”

Newell said the rumour gained ground so quickly that even Valve employees wondered if it were true.

The rumour of Cook’s visit came just as Valve made its hardware plans public and whispers of an Apple console were floated, making for a triple whammy of speculative delight.

Awwwwwww, I was hoping Gabe invited him round, showed him their hardware and a nice big stack of patents and said “Come at us bitches”.

Talk about an unholy union though…

    Valve and Apple?

That’s a bit like EA teaming up with Google or something.

@2, EA should team up with Google, then maybe they’d find their own forums and read the reams and reams of comments about their shitty games, take some feedback from that and apply it to their future game development policy.

    And maybe pigs will fly.

There’s a whole lotta nuts in the enthusiast press on the paddy wagon who let go of their senses when anything from their cult is mentioned.

^ I have to agree, this sites constant push to make it look like Apple are on the verge of entering the console space is a bit silly. I think its been going on for nearly two years now, anything thats even vaguely related to consoles or video games gets the “OMG APPLE BOX CONFIRMED!” treatment. I’m not saying its impossible, but rumours of them just visiting Valve, or them hiring some guy who used to work for Activision (if i recall correctly) dont mean anything.
