Tesco breaks Witcher II 360 street date, Namco “contacting” stores to remove stock

VG247 has received reports of UK supermarket Tesco breaking the street date for the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher II, but Namco Bandai has said its in the process of contacting stores to pull stock from shelves.

We were sent this picture earlier on Twitter which showed the game on the shelf of a local Tesco in Chichester. Other tweets and pictures online have shown it on sale across stores in the UK.

Namco Bandai UK marketing director Lee Kirton has told VG247 it’s now in the process of contacting stores to remove stock of the CD Projekt RPG, but admitted it could be down to confusion over the typical Friday release slot. The game formally releases on Tuesday.

“We are aware that a couple of Tesco stores have put the game on the shelf. We’ve been in contact with them to have the stock removed off the shelves,” he told us on the phone this afternoon.

“I think there’s been a confusion by the random store shelf stock guys or girls who are putting stock out assuming the game is out on a Friday and it’s not. We have been in contact with various stores to have the title removed off the shelves.

“We are looking into it, we are monitoring it, but we’ve been made aware of it. So we do know about it and we are working to have it sorted out.”

The Witcher II on Xbox 360 releases this Tuesday. Scores for the game lifted this morning, and have been excellent so far.

@1 Namco still make their money, but it’s unfair on other retailers since they are abiding by the street date.

This is down to incompetant staff not reading the chart posters properly where it says ‘OUT TUES 17th’ whereas you do not put the game out till then, i should know as i work at Tesco. Dumbasses.
