Super Mario 4 domain in Nintendo's hands

It could just be a sudden defensive domain purchase, But Nintendo has snapped up SuperMario4.com.

Nintendo of America registered the Supermario4.com domain on April 3, although it has existed since 2007.

Visiting the URL drops you straight back to Nintendo's country selector page with no clues as to what it might mean.

We probably have a pretty good idea though; at the end of January Nintendo president Satoru Iwata promised a new 2D Mario game for the 3DS.

Thanks, IGN.
