The Mayans were right: the apocalypse is nigh.

Shigeru Miyamoto has praised Angry Birds, saying the Rovio game feels just like “a traditional videogame”.

The Mario and Zelda creator was speaking in Paris to Edge ahead of a new 3DS-based tour-guide exhibition at the Louvre

“What I like about Angry Birds is that it has a traditional videogame [feel] to it, but also a very creative side,” he said.

“And you can really feel that they’re having fun developing the game. That’s what I like about it.”

In an interview with Hookshot, though, he couldn’t resist having a knock on the competition. That competition being Apple.

“Obviously, if the developer had created the game for Nintendo DS the controls would have been even better, but what can you do?”
