Just Add Water teases Oddworld: Hand of Odd

Just Add Water’s opened up a teaser site for something called Oddworld: Hand of Odd. Nothing else there besides just a logo. Get a look at it here. JAW’s been working on revitalising the series since 2010. It released a PS3 HD version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath. It’s now working on a Vita version of that game, as well as a HD redeux of Abe’s Oddysee.

Wait, wait, wait. There is a Vita version of Stranger’s Wrath in the works? HD remix of Abe’s Oddysee!? And now the possibility of a new Oddworld game? Where do I sign up?

Wow no way??? Johnny you can add in your article that Hand of Odd is a cancelled rts game that was being develloped right after munch’s odysee. The goal was to have at least two factions (nature vs industrial) and all the standards rts features like base building.
If jaw is really doing it then… Fuck yeah! Likely going to be pc/Ios/Android game with freemium elements but i’ll be optimistic about a new oddworld title

Dont get your hopes up, JAW already said that this was going to be a Facebook game like Farmville:

From the Oddworld FAQ :

“When we talk about taking inspiration from Zynga, we are talking about the ‘freemium’ business model, NOT their games. Hand of Odd will NOT be like FarmVille or CityVille.”

Doesn’t matter. Facebook games are crap in my book but tablet release though would be acceptable. The BIGGER problem is “freemium”. They are worse than Zynga and dog shit combined. God, I want to destroy that word and every game that uses it.

They’ve changed their tune (no doubt due to negative reactions), they were quite clear here:

“RTS games and Command & Conquer don’t particularly do well today,” Gilray told Eurogamer. ”Why don’t we look at it the other way round and say, ‘What is today’s equivalent?’ I hate to say this, but it’s the CityVilles and the FarmVilles. We’re going to try and apply a bit of that mechanic and see where that takes us.”

Calling the game “casual rather than more intense,” Gilray said [...]

Thats clearly talking about gameplay itself, not a business model.

I remember Oddworld, when it was epic! Abe Odyssey’s, Abe Exodus, and then what happened? MIRCOSOFT! BLEH they ruined it! RUINED IT!
