Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition lands on PC August 24
Dark Souls will launch on PC on August 24, subtitled as the Prepare to Die Edition.

The game was announced during Namco Bandai Gamer’s Day event in Las Vegas, and it was said initially, there weren’t any plans for a PC port of the game. However, due to the outpouring of requests for a PC version, Namco requested that From Software start making “arrangements to bring the game” to the platform. Hidetaka Miyazaki, its director, expressed his gratitude during the event to the game’s fans and stated the PC petition for its release was “encouraging.”
Prepare to Die will include new enemies, locations, bosses, added NPCs and online matchmaking.
Trailer’s below.

Naw come on. If you expect anything less than a horrible port you’re fooling yourself.

@1 Why? The game uses Sony’s cross-platform PhyreEngine so there’s no particular reason to expect a bad port.

@3, 4:
Because Blighttown. That’s why. If they can’t even get the game on one platform right, what makes you think they’d get it right on PC?

@5
Because it is certainly impossible to learn from previous mistakes, and it is definately the exact same people doing this port, you know that of course!

It’ll be fine. It’s hardly a technical marvel. The whole point of it is that it’s mentally hard. It’ll certainly be that.

I wonder if there’s any way they would update the PS3 version to include this content. I would pay $10 for it.
Namco-Bandai, I would like to express my interest in From Software focusing more of their attention to the Dark Souls series. I’ve already voted with my dollars, and now I’m voting with my future dollars. I want more Dark Souls!
Thanks!

@6: If they learned from their mistakes, why is there still no patch that fixes the incredible stuttering?
@12: Who says its going to use GFWL? GFWL was one of the biggest reasons why Batman Arkham City was so messed up and why the patches took so long to be released.
There is evidence that a huge savegame-bug could be traced back to GFWL.

“Incredible stuttering”? Jeesh, it was noticeable but hardly game breaking.

@15: Are you serious? Every time you got too close to a furry enemy the game would ran into the single digits. Blightown was always stuttering. Always. I have seen alphas running more smoothly than this.
Extreme stuttering in a game where every hit could be your last, i’d call that game breaking.

The performance issues stem from the consoles’ limited processing power and/or memory… They haven’t fixed it because they probably can’t, not without removing content. It was annoying, sure, but not game-breaking, I think you’re just using that as an excuse for your failures.

@17: It’s the lack of proper optimizations and nothing else. Optimization is the most important part about a port.
They haven’t fixed it because they didn’t bother.

I have this for the Xbox, and while I thought the PC port could be a good thing, with GFWL, I’m not too sure… It has a way of ruining EVERYTHING IT TOUCHES.
