Risen 2 cover altered to meet ESRB guidelines

The US cover of Risen 2: Dark Waters will sport slightly different art than the international release.

Publisher Deep Silver told GameInformer the ESRB’s guidelines required a colour change.

“The color backdrop to the game’s skull was changed to comply with ESRB guidelines pertaining to elements that could possibly be interpreted as blood,” a spokesperson said.

The US version will sport a blue splash rather than red.

Deep Silver should be quite comfortable with the ESRB’s restrictions by now; it was also pinged last year for depicting a hanged figure on the cover of Dead Island.

Risen 2: Dark Waters releases in April on PC and in May on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It sports an open world dominated by ocean, which players navigate as captain of a ship.

Not to offend anybody, but seriously… that is just stupid… so what if there is DRAWN blood on the cover? Do people get the urge to kill on the site of red color now?

Wow… just wow. This is censorship, however they put it. It wasn’t a graphic depiction of blood or something but simply a simple design with skull and blood… F*** you too ESRB.
And they say MPAA is made of assholes.

These jelly americans can’t withstand a splat of red paint under a skull or a stylized hanged man, but they said nothing about the MUTILATED HAND on the cover of Dead Space…

#3 my five year old son did took a look at the dead space cover by mistake (my mistake i put it at his level of reach), and he was afraid to enter the gaming room, becuase of the floating hand, i agree with you for my personal experience that one could really affect some minors, more than this one.
