Rumour: Microsoft to unveil Xbox Lite for late 2013 at E3
According to MS Nerd, Microsoft will unveil a new ARM-based model called Xbox Lite for a late 2013 release at E3 this year, not its widely-rumoured next-gen machine.

A new Xbox has been reported before for an unveil in Los Angeles in June. Microsoft had said a few weeks back it wouldn’t show next-gen hardware at the show.
The insider (via TechRadar) indicated the hardware would get a similar pricetag as Apple TV, which is about £100/$100, adding it would “Arcade-style games & all the current & future media apps with Kinect (with near-mode)”.
Following that would be the next-gen Xbox, according to the insider.
“Details about it are very hazy, except that, like the 360, it will do games for core-audiences & the same media apps as the other device, also with Kinect.”
And in 2015, the next-generation of Kinect will come onto the market, with MS Nerd saying it would likely include “a better depth camera, processor & inter-connect.”

What’s the difference between this and the already “lighter” (aka Arcade) models currently available?

Well, if it’s ARM-based it won’t actually be an Xbox 360 – it’ll be something else entirely. You can’t just swap out the CPU for something entirely different and have it run all the old stuff.

@1: If it really is ARM based it means it’ll have a completely different set of chips inside it. I’m not even sure how that’s possible whilst still retaining compatibility with the 360′s games.

What’s the point? Stop messing about and get the Next Gen systems done.

I wonder if they’ll give all the folks at the E3 press conference another freebie.

There’s the possibility that this would be similar to the windows phones OS and there’s a number of XBLA games on it already (perhaps they’re trying to get more people to do some crossdev such that if the games are on the 360 it’ll also be there on their phones which would tie in with their windows 8 strategy and making the 360lite similar to the phones could possibly help in that direction). Think more like Vita and PS3 crossplay titles.

Well, if this was true, it might actually run Windows 8 since it’s coming to ARM based devices as well.

If this is true, well there is a possibility the new xbox wont hit in the 2013, it will be arriving in the 2014 more likely, and it seems the logical thing to do, right now they are still selling strong numbers and they are now making a profit, in a business standpoint of view, is very logical if you ask me.

“I do not work for Microsoft, any of it partners or contractors. Its not really a leak. 75% of this stuff is known for the most part if you follow Microsoft carefully.
Now, I simply keep my eyes open for any little bit of information that seems possibly relevant. I have humungous mental maps of how stuff that I’ve gathered over time might fit future roadmaps.
I said before that this is also a social experiment. It has been very illuminating to observe how a story spreads among the media & how substandard the process of verifying information is. Most of all, I have been amazed by how easily the media & the enthusiast public ignore any attempt at ascertaining the authenticity of sources.”

So it will be basically a cheap platform to run Windows 8/Windows Phone store games, along with some Kinect games.
Yeah I dont know the Xbox 360 is pretty cheap already, it would have to be well under the 100 mark to get any takers I think and have a lot more content available through it’s app store then the Xbox.

If THIS is the future of Xbox, then LAME. Also, what’s next? Xboxi followed by Xbox XL!?

Microsoft should license the PS Vita – that’d sort out a lot of its knob-envy over social/mobile/casual gaming and then MS could whore out all the core franchises for us to enjoy too.

Yeh and we already know the next xbox won’t be too far away. Takes an average of 2years for a game to be made. There are already games being made for next gen. Saints row 4, Alan wake 2 and a few others.

I think that’s BS. Maybe MS will release a Win 8 tablet with the Xbox brand, but I’m sure/hope it’s not a console.

This rumor has been around while, this is what websites have been calling “Loop”, a Arm CPU unit with possible Kinect ability to compete with Apple TV. MS would have all those Video apps on this box like it is on Xbox, and I believe its a definite possibility. This is something MS would try.

Hmm… Yes. A social experiment to tell us something about the media that we’ve already known for hundreds of years.
I don’t really see the point in this sort of stuff.
People have done it with football stories that ended up making the back page of a national newspaper, but so what?
All it proves is that someone can lie well enough to fool some random journo.
Waste of time.
