Vanguard goes free-to-play this summer

Friday, 23rd March 2012 16:42 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

SOE has announced Vanguard will go free-to-play this summer.

The MMO is just another in a line of SOE offerings that are F2P, such as EverQuest, EverQuest II and DCUO.

“At SOE, giving players choices is the theme of how we’re moving forward as a company,” Andy Sites, the game’s director of development said in the announcement. “We see free-to-play as a big part of our future and we like the flexibility it offers players. Vanguard will be the next in line of our AAA games to make this transition.

“Since we’ve literally just begun on the work, I’m not ready to go into much detail. However, I will say that you can expect something similar to EverQuest, EverQuest II and DC Universe Online when we roll-out our free-to-play offering this summer. Once we have more information to share, you’ll be the first to know.”

Vanguard was released in 2007.

I doubt they’ve made the beast races look any less shit, which was one of the constant points of irritation for me. Not to mention that the beast races were horribly typical and stereotypical.

    Blech.

I DID have a hell of a lot of fun with the diplomacy system, though, but I really doubt I’d want to go back just for that, especially with GW2 just around the corner. More MMOs need something like that diplomacy system I feel… it’s just a stroke of genius.
