Mistborn RPG to bring fantasy novel series to PC, consoles

Brian Sanderson's high fantasy epic Mistborn is being adapted into a multi-platform RPG.

Sherlock Holmes: Mysteries developer Little Orbit is behind the game, which features an "a unique combat system that puts Allomancy into the hands of gamers".

Allomancy (apparently) allows players and enemies to enhance their abilities with various kinds of metal; a Mistborn is a character which can use every kind of metal, as opposed to a Mistling, which can only gain power from one type.

The story is being penned by Sanderson himself and involves a nobleman called Fendin Fathvell. From the rampant delight this news has caused in some circles, I'm assuming that's a name known to fans. The plot takes places centuries before the earliest Mistborn novel.

Sanderson lent a hand with the story of Infinity Blade II and is also responsible for he final volumes of the late Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series.

"As an avid gamer, I'm extremely excited by this opportunity. The chance to write the story for a Mistborn game while working with a team of talented developers is, quite literally, living a dream," the author said in a statement.

The RPG is slated for release "late next year" on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; going by the logos on the game's website, it looks to be a downloadable release at this stage.
