Double Fine Kickstarter hits $3 million

Tuesday, 13th March 2012 11:23 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Ahead of its deadline later tonight, Double Fine’s Kickstarter page to raise funds for a click-and-point adventure game has now raised $3 million.

Fundraising will cease on the page later tonight UK time. The studio plans to celebrate that by hosting a livestream tonight.

Double Fine started the Kickstarter following the release of Double Fine Action Theatre to raise $400,000 for a click-and-point action adventure title and a documentary filmed by 2-Player Productions.

However, it managed to raise $1 million within its first 24 hours, showing a possible way forward for the industry in the same vein Radiohead did years ago.

It broke the $2 million barrier soon after that.

To quote Tim Schafer, “Kabloxoxoxoxo…that’s the sound a love bomb makes.”

It’s been a little over a month getting here & I am overjoyed to see it break $3 million.

    I finally pledged.

I’m not really all that in to the point and click thing, but I’d really like to see the documentary. And if the game is good then all the better.
