Cross-play multiplayer cancelled for Counter Strike: Global Offensive

Valve has cancelled cross-platform multiplayer between PC, Mac, and PS3 in Counter Strike: Global Offensive based on data received from the game's beta.

Speaking with Joystiq, Valve's Chet Faliszek told the site the stripping of said functionality was done in favor of "offering constant updates for players on the PC and Mac."

"The beta has proved we want to update not just the beta, but the game itself post-launch frequently on the PC," said Faliszek. "To do that we need to separate the platforms so one doesn't hamstring the other.

"So for that, we have removed the idea of cross-platform play -- essentially make all platforms stronger by not mixing them."

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will launch this summer and the latest screenshots from the Xbox Spring Showcase in San Francisco are through here.
