Kojima Productions asks: Is it Real, or is it the Fox Engine?

Kojima Productions has posted shots taken with a camera and some rendered using its Fox Engine, and has asked the viewer to decide which are the “real-life” photos and which were from the Fox Engine.

“Is it real, or is it Fox?” it asked.

The answer was B, according to the answer provided, and we have to say: great job on the horse, guys.

Kojima Productions is currently looking to hire engineers to work on “the latest Metal Gear Solid targeted for high-end consoles and PC” as well as “next-gen game engine technology for use with the FOX Engine”.

Thanks, Gematsu.

Don’t forget: What an engine is capable of and what the game will look like is two very different things. For all we know, these (tiny) screenshots may have been rendered on a high-end computer with an awful framerate.

Don’t expect this level of quality in a game just yet.

Easy enough to tell the difference, but it is quite good given how shit their previous engines have been. Quite interested to see some proper game shots even though I’m not a huge MGS fan.

Please release for PC…Millions to be made on Steam.

And go back to MGS1 for inspiration. The other games were lame.

You could easily recognize it’s B because the paintings have no thickness.

I like this “physics based rendering” thing. It seems to give a lot of control and results are natural and predictable.

This doesn’t look much different than what we’re seeing now in engines like CryEngine 3 and Frostbite (among others). It’s cool that they’re using a new engine and all, but it’s incredibly easy to detail a scene to make it look like a real life counterpart in multiple current engines. What’s created from the engine is what matters.

Hyping the engine just doesn’t seem like it’d be on my list of things to do if I still hadn’t released information on the games releasing under it.

This reminds me of the Forza engine car renders and the codemaster’s Dirt renders. The cars looked absolutely amazing in the pics, supposedly rendered in engine, but the actual game looked like a game, nothing close to that level of detail.

Small pictures that hide the textures and alisisng don’t impress me that much. When Solid snake goes in that boardroom and rides that horse and I can control it, then ill be impressed.

I agree with @8 and @9. Not to knock it completely, it does look great…but let’s see this in motion, and allow players total control in that environment!

Looks like they are looking for potential licensees for this engine.
