Debunked – Baldur’s Gate teaser video not related to Beamdog announce

Wednesday, 29th February 2012 23:35 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Settle down, kids – that teaser video has nothing to do with Beamdog’s Baldur’s Gate announce.

“This isn’t us,” Beamdog’s Trent Oster confirmed to VG247.

The short video is labelled Baldurs Gate – Teaser, and hails from an account named Beamdogger, but our suspicions were fired when it turned out to be the only video posted on the user’s brand new account. The lack of apostrophe in “Baldur’s” is a bit of a give away, too.

Following the discovery of an updated teaser site yesterday, Beamdog revealed it is hoping to make a Baldur’s Gate-related announcement soon. The developer and publisher was founded by an ex-BioWare member and recently brought MDK2 to PC in HD form.

You can watch the apparent fan effort below.

A shame, really. I thought it was actually quite good. Probably doesn’t make any sense if you haven’t played the original games, but I liked it. I haven’t heard Sarevok’s voice in ages, but he sounds just as menacing as I remember him. And Jon Irenicus. Ah, the memories.

I quite hate Beamdog, though. Teasing like this (or, well, not like this, but with the site), stirring up long forgotten realms of pure passion within me. It’s not right. I doubt that whatever comes from this will be enough to sate the hunger for more Baldur’s Gate that this little campaign has woken inside me – and if it isn’t, I won’t be a very happy fanboy. I seriously haven’t had this kind of BG craving in years. Just hearing that theme song on the site … GIVE ME SOMETHING UTTERLY AMAZING ALREADY!!!

Can’t say I’ve been keeping up, but Interplay have been getting money from rerelease of the Fallout games, and Beamdog already have a line to them with MDK 2 HD and the Wii port, so…. Baldurs Gate… HD?

Does Interplay still own Baldurs Gate?

I think Atari hold the rights. I vaguely remember them saying (way back in 2005 or something) that they would make new games in several of the old AD&D franschises. That never really happened, except with Neverwinter Nights.
