Vita: First Edition Bundles sold out, Sony "encouraged" by 3G adoption

Sony's senior vice president of PlayStation brand marketing, Guy Longworth, has said the firm sold out of its First Edition Vita Bundles which were made available for pre-order before the system's launch.

Speaking with Gamespot, Longworth said the the response to the First Edition Bundles was "great", and while he "wouldn't" disclose 3G adoption rates for Vita so far, the firm is "encouraged" by the public's reaction to the option.

"We're in the very early stages of launch, but we're very encouraged by the reaction we've had with people looking at the 3G version," he said. "I think they realize by taking 3G, it means you can basically play wherever you want to, whenever you want to, and be connected the whole time. And not just through the games but also to your social media with the apps we have like Facebook and Twitter.

"Consumers are going to look at that and realize that it's something that makes a lot of sense to have now, and also for the future. I think it really future-proofs them in terms of some of the things that will come down the line in terms of gaming experiences that will be possible through 3G, to be able to play online with your friends.

"We think gamers are understanding that, but we'll wait and see what happens."

So far, according to Longworth, Uncharted: Golden Abyss is the best-selling title for the system, which didn't "really surprise" Sony, "given the popularity of that franchise" with core consumers.

"There are a number of others that appear to be doing well: Little Deviants, Hot Shots Golf, Mod Nation Racers," he added. "It's very early days, but Uncharted is top of the charts so far."

Vita launched today in North America, Europe, Latin America, Australasia, the Middle East, and Africa.
