Nintendo Direct: The Last Story hitting US, Sega, Capcom and Namco unite

Wednesday, 22nd February 2012 15:06 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Today’s Nintendo Direct presentations have gifted news on a Sega, Capcom and Namco, confirmation of a US Last Story release and much more.

The presentation for the UK and Japan was hosted by Satoru Iwata, and Reggie Fils-Aime hosted the US presentation – which you can watch below.

First up was some really good news for the US: The Last Story will be released in the region sometime with summer, with XSEED handling the publishing end.

Xenoblade Chronicles

Nintendo has announced the game will launch in the US on April 6, and its box art will be graced with fan-chosen artwork.

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Three-on-three multiplayer battles were shown for Kid Icarus: Uprising. Called the Fiend’s Cauldron, it rewards players with stronger weapons and makes use of 3DS’s AR Card feature. It will also include StreetPass functionality allowing players to share weapons. Selected weapons can be turned into a Weapon Gem. Once shared and converted, they can be turned into real weapons by paying Hearts.

Uprising will launch across US and Europe on March 23 with six Kid Icarus AR cards included, and those who pre-order will receive an extra pack containing 24 AR cards. These cards are also available through Club Nintendo, and for 250 Stars you’ll be able to get two packs containing six AR cards each. Extremely rare cards are hidden in certain packs.

Mario Tennis Open

For the first time in a Mario Tennis game, players will be able to compete against others in online matches and earn points by moving up leader boards. It’s out for 3DS on May 25 in Europe and in the US on May 20.

Rhythm Thief and the Emperor’s Treasure

The game is coming to 3DS due to a new distribution deal between SEGA and Nintendo of Europe. In it, players run around Paris trying to solve musical puzzles while trying to crack the mystery behind the disappearance of the master thief, Raphael’s father. It launches across Europe on April 5. We’ve asked SEGA for the US date.

Sega, Capcom and Namco project

During the broadcast it was announced that Capcom, Namco Bandai and Sega are teaming up for a crossover 3DS project with Namco as the lead. A teaser trailer was shown, and a teaser site for it can be found here.

Fire Emblem

Nintendo’s first foray into paid download content will begin with the release of Fire Emblem, and will consist of new episodes with new maps combined into DLC packaging. The first set will release on April 19, and it will be free as an incentive until May 31. A prepaid card will also be made available. The game’s characters were designed by Yusuke Kozaki. It will be released in Europe later this year.
