Final Fantasy XIV server merge put on hold

After a negative reaction from players, Square Enix is reassessing plans to shutter eight of Final Fantasy XIV's servers, reducing the number of available worlds to ten.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the wealth of feedback you have provided us with following the announcement made regarding the World merge and character transfers," a post on the Lodestone blog stated.

"In order to ensure that the most desirable and effective outcome is achieved, we will be reassessing the method of the merger process."

Interestingly, the publisher chose to delete the original announcement. No further details were given, although Square Enix promised an update soon.

The merger had been planned for March 27, ahead of the game's version 2.0 update.

Thanks, Massively.
