Warren Spector to get GDC Lifetime Achievement Award
Junction Point boss Warren Spector will be the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC, organisers have announced. The ex-Ion Storm head, who created Deus Ex, Thief and System Shock at Looking Glass, will pick up the award at the Game Developers Choice Awards on March 7. GDC GM Meggan Scavio said Spector’s career to date “exemplifies the exact qualities that a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient should possess.”
Big congrats to Warren.

They should also award him a trophy for best name EVER. Seriously, Warren Specter is the name James Bond wishes he had. And yeah, the man makes super awesome games.

Wow Johnny, check your facts man. Warren did NOT create Thief and System Shock at Looking Glass. He PRODUCED those games there. Not the same thing at all. Thief was created by Ken Levine and Tim Stellmach. System Shock was created by Doug Church. Deus Ex WAS created by Warren Spector but in tandem with Harvey Smith. A co-designed game. He didn’t design it all by himself.
Warren Spector is a a great producer. But he is over-credited as a designer thanks to shoddy journalism.

I’m pretty sure that Warren Spector created Christmas. Then there was some unpleasantness involving Jim Carrey. But at least the fries were salted.

Warren Spector, even when he produced, had his hand in design and development.
One of the greats of our industry…..
