I have no doubt in my mind that this will be one of the best games this year. Gearbox know what there doing and I’m going Alien mad these days in the build up to Prometheus.

Keep it coming.

What was the point of this ‘trailer’? It shows nothing of the game, its ridiculously short and the CGI isnt even that great. It seems totally pointless, CGI should either be your reveal, released near launch as an ad, or a lengthy intro-like thing, this wasnt even entertaining. I dont get it, if you want to wave your arms in the air to remind people that you exist, just use in-game stuff.

Is there any MP for this game or is it all SP? Some enclosed tight corridor horde mode with limited ammo between rounds, would be kinda awesome.

Oooooh… The Moon soundtrack.

I love that movie. Sam Rockwell owns.

@2 I agree completely – This was totally underwhelming and very poor quality. I’ve loved the in-game stuff shown so far – more of that please. No need to waste money on overblown, underdelivering CGI trailers. If you must make an evocative trailer, go live action.

To be honest, I’m with #2 and #5, this trailer looked way too fun and we hated that… Who the fuck has fun these days? I hate fun so damn much…

Right guys? Lets see if we can hate on something else thats popular.

@6: You think this looks fun? Alien Blood dropping down, people shooting at stuff we can’t see? Really?

That’s your definition of fun?

Really?

God, your comment is so offensively stupid i don’t even know where to start, but you clearly seem to be an enemy of criticism.

Well some people call Demon souls, Darksouls, and Amnesia fun. I am all for horror type of gameplay. There is nothing wrong with that. Whatever floats your boat.

@8: I don’t understand the purpose of your comment. Both Gekidami and TheBlackHole clearly criticize the trailer, not the actual game. The game looks fun, the trailer doesn’t. They question the purpose of the trailer and CGI Trailer in general.

That’s what they said. That’s why TerraZet’s comment makes him look stupid.

I agree with #4. Sam Rockwell is indeed amazing.

Uhhh yeah trailer released to market a game which has recently been delayed to dampen any sense of disapointment. “Its still coming! Please don’t log us at the back of your memory!”

@9 I know but I would actually find that fun in a game’s environment much like the movies. /shrug

To me the point of the trailer was to remind us what Aliens is all about. That feeling of desperation in tight corridors, being surrounded, fleeting hope…etc The alien blood dripping from floor to floor, the slow moving camera, even the music fits. Now if they had made an all out action trailer with like no sense of thrill or suspense, I can see the comments connecting more, but here everything seems in place. Sorry but to me, you guys criticized this way too hard lol. Made me want to play the game even more now!

But that’s just me…

I absolutely hate it! Who in their right mind would consider the idea of running away from 500s of Xenomorphs, fun? even running away from just a Xenomorph is not fun, it’s hazardous, bad for one’s HP!

I’d rather shoot myself than being harvested by a facebuster. I take my chances with a Predator any day. Xenomorph is just not my kind of way of having fun.

A nice moody piece… Just something to whet the appetite… I expect the bigger better CGI trailers are being kept back till nearer the release…

Please be a good game :-)

Oh great, another ‘rocks in their head’-stupid publisher trading one packed period for another instead of aiming for sometime during the traditionally barren stretch between the two.

YoungZero you wanna get whatevers stuck in your ass sorted out cos its clearly causing you anal grief.

Stop thinking you’re superior to everyone just because you can ‘out-arrogant’ them.

@20: I’m able to understand basic criticism, if that makes me superior, so be it.

Gekidamis and TheBlackHoles criticism for the trailer made sense, your reply to their comments didn’t. You wanted to come off as some kind of smartass, but missed their point by a mile. I pointed that out and questioned your intelligence.

That so hard?

Hrmn.

I gather that from the title there’ll be no playable aliens in this one, and that’s a shame, because it’s a creative challenge that I long to see more developers tackle. And usually it’s done pretty well.

The epitome of playable aliens was the original Aliens vs Predator, but really, AvsP2, and the AvsP reboot didn’t do too bad of a job with it. There’s room for improvement, sure, but just because it’s difficult to do right doesn’t mean that it should be dropped.

I suppose that this is where a lot of my sadness comes from in relation to the games industry – there’s so much money involved that they can’t afford to take any risks at all, because risks may not appease the lowest common denominator, marketing complains, and you just end up with homogenised entertainment. Which generally amounts to brain rot.

All the risks lately seem to be coming out of small development houses and independents. I really do wonder if there’s just too much money involved these days. It seems like ‘risk’ has become a taboo word. Instead, you just make a boring, riskless game and try and convince everyone that it’s a really innovative, creative thing. I’m not so easily fooled.

I mean, how many times before have we played ‘man with guns versus aliens?’ The style of alien doesn’t matter much, because it’s all the same, and really – the only reason that the likes of Dead Space and Space Marine stood out so much was because of unique gameplay mechanics in both, and because of the inimitable character of the orks in Space Marine. (And if I dare say it, the orks deserve their own game, too. It was their character that brought Space Marine to life, after all.)

Without aliens, this is much like the hundreds of other games that have revolved around men shooting aliens. I suppose that’s okay if you can play the same game over and over, exactly the same game, just reskinned to look different… but I long for more originality. I’m not looking for pure originality, as to chase such a thing is folly… but a little innovation from time to time couldn’t hurt.

I’d have totally been for this if it had playable aliens, but eh… doesn’t look like it will so I’m likely going to skip over it. Otherwise it’ll just feel like a reskinned Halo or Gears of War.

I guess what I’m getting at above is that if they don’t take any risks, these games have absolutely no identity of their own. Risks define identity in a way – and when you take a risk, you’re putting something of yourself into a game at the expense of everything else, perhaps even at the expense of *gasp!* sales.

If mainstream publishers allowed their developers to take more risks, they wouldn’t have to spend so much on marketing trying to convince us that their games are actually different. It’s sort of like politics, politics has become a cult of popularity thing lately, a popularity contest and policies tend to get sidelined. Which is why when policies come up they have to try hard to sell the tiniest of differences, but if politicians actually put effort into having their own policies, then they wouldn’t have this problem.

It’s the same with games – if more developers just did what they wanted instead of what would sell, then we’d have less need for marketing, because a game would have its own identity. You wouldn’t have to pay a marketing department to give it one, you wouldn’t need atrociously expensive trailers to do that. The game would speak for itself.

That the Binding of Isaac sold so much by comparison proves this.

Just be yourself, development houses, make the game that you want to make. Don’t make the game that will sell. I can honestly tell the difference between the two far too easily, and I don’t really have any interest in buying the game that is made to sell.

So trailers like this do nothing for me.

It’s just a developer desperately trying to convince me why I should buy their game about muscular men shooting aliens versus another developer’s game about muscular men shooting aliens.

I suppose I should drop an example of a developer who’s put together an interesting game without having to struggle, and one that’s sold well. I can do that. I can’t use L.A. Noire because there were plenty of internal struggles, there.

But I can use Batman: Arkham City. I totally can. It’s very unusual in that it’s one of those rare games where you’re without a gun, it’s essentially like an old-school beat ‘em up. You’re not allowed to pick up a gun because Batman doesn’t use guns. And there are puzzles and secret things present because Batsy is a detective. Playing Arkham City I did have issues with it, I could see where they were trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

But the game still shined through that. I was really pleased with the effort. I was terrified that they were going to lose the plot and actually fail to understand what made Arkham Asylum so unique. But no, they didn’t.

Good for them.

And it’s proof that it CAN be done.

@22: Indeed it was.

“And stop sooking the arses of people who have been commenting on here longer than you.”

Nope. Stupid argument btw.
