Tomb Raider reaches alpha state, plans for global sim-ship

Crystal Dynamics has hit a significant milestone ahead of Tomb Raider's worldwide release.

In the latest Crystal Habit posdcast, senior producer Kyle Peschel and art director Brian Horto confirmed Tomb Raider has reached alpha stage, meaning most of its content is in place and it is in a complete playable state, if a rough one.

The game is expected to be in alpha for a minimum of two months, after which it will go into beta for at least two more, putting the earliest release date at the end of May - although likely later than that.

In an FAQ posted on the official forums, global brand director Karl Stewart confirmed the game will have a "global, simultaneous release".

Tomb Raider is a complete reboot of the long-running action adventure series, expected on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
