Hacked PS3 titles running on Vita via Remote Play: video

Monday, 23rd January 2012 13:41 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Videos of PS3 titles running on PlayStation Vita through Remote Play have been shown.

Mortal Kombat, Red Dead Redemption, Batman: Arkham Asylum and Battlefield 3 have all been videoed running on Vita through the last hacked PS3 Firmware update, FW 3.55.

Official Vita support between it and PS3 was introduced in Firmware 4.00, but the hacked version of 3.55 recognises Vita as a mobile phone.

Official PS3 game streaming support for Vita Remote Play has been rumoured before, with SCE WWS head Shuhei Yoshida previously demoing Killzone 3 and LittleBigPlanet on the system at Tokyo Game Show last year.

Videos of Battlefield 3 and Red Dead Redemption running in action are below, via EG.

#3 i dont see that as bad thing, because playing pirate games is a must in third world countries where games cost 200$ and even more, even the oldest games of this generation that you find on amazon at 15 $ or less, here you will find it at 200$, and one of the main appealings of the ps1 and ps2, just like the wii this gen, is the fact that you can play pirate games on it, i know in some eyes this might be see as a bad thing, but i think it helps the industry too, because in the end you sell more hardware, of course you will sell less software, but is not all losses i guess.

@4 You’re wasting your time. I’ve yet to see a comment from LOLshock94 that either makes sense or isn’t marginal trolling. Though “lololololol gamers are id0iotsknm” would seem to be a self-fulfilling prophecy in this case.

    Cool.

@1, If Sony had allowed for this in the first place, there would be no reason to hack it, I for one would like a superior browser for all PlayStation devices.

#7, i dont own pirated games and my PS3 is pristine, i mean it has not been pirated, thank God i can purchase 200$ games, but that doesnt mean that i cant feel empathy for those who cant, like i said that is not all that bad really, considering here in third world countries you can buy a console thinking on the pirated games, otherwise you will not be buying a console, therefore the industry is supported because the manufacturers sell more hardware, like i said before is not all that bad really, you sell less software but sell more hardware, call it even i guess.

@10 i know pirating isnt bad but a huge majority of people think it is, even when you pirate a game companys dont make or loose money which is a plus for us all

#4 just the Wii this gen? :) And 200$ games? Ouch… where do you live anyway? I’m also from a 3rd world country and I get games at 80$

even when you pirate a game companys dont make or loose money which is a plus for us all

That’s blatantly not true. People who indulge in piracy have a very rose-tinted view of its impact whilst they go about taking things in the belief that they are entitled to whatever they like.

For a more topical take on this, I suggest you search Google News with the term “MegaUpload”.

#12, In Venezuela, you know for the currency conversion issue, and besides that the venezuelan government implemented a law that bans the selling of videogames almost all of them , with the exception of sports and other games that are not violent in any means, so we need to go to the black market, where do you get charge a lot and i mean a lot, here gaming is a luxury T_T, almost forbiden, so in that regard piracy is really not that bad. but of course it has its bad parts, but for many of us is a must, that or only buy one game in the entire gen 8D/ T_T.
p.s just to keep things in perspective a console costs a little bit more than 600 $, any of them even the wii and handhelds, at this moment, even if in other regions you get a wii under 150$ or a handheld for that price, i dont want to see the price of the vita here when it will be arriving 8D/T_T

#14 I see. Considering the situation on your country, I guess its understandable how you think.

Personally, my only problem with piracy ain’t piracy itself… but dumb companies that say their low sales are due to piracy and blatantly ignore their own faults like ignoring the fanbase or not marketing their games.

I’m looking at Sega and NamcoBandai vs the PSP.

    Anyway… moving on.

Wait, does this mean that soon we can play all PS3 titles on Vita via remote play? Hopefully that’s the case and publishers won’t charge extra just for some random file that enables cross play. I really REALLY want to try Dark Souls on a handheld.

@21, at this economy, u think they’re gonna let u play without paying? are they mad? They can abandon shity handheld projects and just charge you with extra bucks for something like “Vita Pass”. trust me even little Jimmy thinks they would. It’s all part of the conspiracy, that’s right C-O-N… SPIRACY!

It’s crap like this which makes me long for the day when everyone is forced to stream games. The network speeds aren’t ready yet, but when they are, it’ll be nice to stop assholes like the one who did this.

  23. FeaturePreacher

@14 The reason prices are so high in your country might be due to a corrupt government that tries to do the stupid thing of fighting free trade and free markets.

@24 i don’t know where you live but in argentina the lowest price of a ps3 is $580 dollars that it’s $2500 arg……. just to take an example. New games cost $115 dollars

Just jumping in real quick while at work, I thought the PS Vita was supposed to be able to play PS3 games anyway…no?

Those who imply that as long as you don’t kill anyone, stealing is not a crime nor a bad thing, live in a different sphere.

Besides that, it is not anyones birth given right to own a console. If it is too expensive for ones economy, you just don’t purchase it – as simple as that. To say that people in a country with low income and high prices have a right to pirate (steal) games, is out of touch with reality and what is right and wrong.

And if publishers don’t make money on their software they will not continue to make games – even if some people seem to believe otherwise.

Pirates make me angry, people work there asses off to make these games, they become more and more complicated and dicks like them, just slow the industry down. Stealing a game off a site is like filling your car up with fuel and driving off with out paying.
