Resident Evil 6 set in China and US, out November 20

Capcom has announced Resident Evil 6 after much speculation, confirming the game for a shocking November 20 worldwide launch for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

A Japanese launch will take place on November 22, while a PC version will release after the console SKUs make their bow.

The game takes place in China and the US ten years after Resident Evil 2, with Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy teaming up as the game’s main protagonists. The US president has decided to go public with the Raccoon City incident, but a bioterrorism attack leaves Leon, standing by his leader’s side, with a difficult choice.

In China, Chris Redfield is dealing with a similar attack. Even with support from new characters in the series for the duo, the latest wave of bioterrorism attacks sees the world under its biggest threat ever.

Co-op makes a return following a debut in Resident Evil 5, as well as its standard single-payer.

Development on Resident Evil 6, according to the series’s Twitter account, has been ongoing for two years, a lot shorter than the eight year timeframe given back in 2009 by series stalart Masuchiko Kawata.

Directing RE6 will be Eichiro Sasaki, while Yoshaki Hirabayashi will take over as producer from Jun Takeuchi from RE5. Hiroyuki Kobayashi will be its executive producer.

“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” said Capcom’s R&D and marketing head Katsuhiko Ichi.

“The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.”

Kobayashi added: “From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers.”

RE6′s pre-order campaign will kick off effective immediately in the US, with Amazon.com, Best Buy and GameStop offering an exclusive for various other modes in the game that will be detailed in the future.

Tonight’s announcement ends a week-long speculation trip on the game, which began when the viral website No Hope Left appeared on Wednesday.

Before the unveil, IGN had gotten hold of posters showing the game’s logo, date and platforms from US retailer GameStop.

VentureBeat first reported the Kennedy-Redfield tag-team earlier in the day.

When he said “This is Raccoon City all over again” I was all ‘yes!’ but then I remembered every game since that time. Such conflict.

The China city in the trailer is Hong Kong, or at least Capcom is taking Hong Kong as reference.

The taxi, road sign, shop names are all Hong Kong things. Even Hong Kong Regional Emblem can be seen.

@49: Exactly my feeling. Glad I’m not the only one who has principles.

A month after the release of this game people are going to complain just as much as they did after RE5. You’ll see, it will happen.

I’m not sold yet. I thought the Resident Evil 5 trailers looked amazing too and in the end I was just disappointed.

@56 If you are reffering to the guy that was running with a girl from a giant infected, they are Barry and Rebbeca from the original RE…

I think this game will be great, i love RE4 and for me it is the best resident evil game on the franchise, it has horror mixed with action in a neat way,for me it was the best game of last gen, sorry baten kaitos, i did enjoy five but like so many people mentioned co-op ruined the horror-scarier asspect of the game, now i think the co-op in this game will be handle differently than in the previous one, because capcom know this, so i think they will handle better this asspect in the new game, really i cannot wait for this game.
