Resident Evil 6 set in China and US, out November 20

Thursday, 19 January 2012 20:54 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Capcom has announced Resident Evil 6 after much speculation, confirming the game for a shocking November 20 worldwide launch for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

A Japanese launch will take place on November 22, while a PC version will release after the console SKUs make their bow.

The game takes place in China and the US ten years after Resident Evil 2, with Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy teaming up as the game’s main protagonists. The US president has decided to go public with the Raccoon City incident, but a bioterrorism attack leaves Leon, standing by his leader’s side, with a difficult choice.

In China, Chris Redfield is dealing with a similar attack. Even with support from new characters in the series for the duo, the latest wave of bioterrorism attacks sees the world under its biggest threat ever.

Co-op makes a return following a debut in Resident Evil 5, as well as its standard single-payer.

Development on Resident Evil 6, according to the series’s Twitter account, has been ongoing for two years, a lot shorter than the eight year timeframe given back in 2009 by series stalart Masuchiko Kawata.

Directing RE6 will be Eichiro Sasaki, while Yoshaki Hirabayashi will take over as producer from Jun Takeuchi from RE5. Hiroyuki Kobayashi will be its executive producer.

“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” said Capcom’s R&D and marketing head Katsuhiko Ichi.

“The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.”

Kobayashi added: “From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers.”

RE6′s pre-order campaign will kick off effective immediately in the US, with Amazon.com, Best Buy and GameStop offering an exclusive for various other modes in the game that will be detailed in the future.

Tonight’s announcement ends a week-long speculation trip on the game, which began when the viral website No Hope Left appeared on Wednesday.

Before the unveil, IGN had gotten hold of posters showing the game’s logo, date and platforms from US retailer GameStop.

VentureBeat first reported the Kennedy-Redfield tag-team earlier in the day.

That went to the sameplace as the PSP Resident Evil.

Looks like the third main characters partner is Ashley, which is nice enough I suppose.

I dunno, this is pretty under-whelming.

    It went to the 3DS?

It didnt look like Chris & Leon were ‘teaming up’ in the trailer. In fact it looks like Leon is in the US and Chris is in China, and they arent actually fighting the same type of enemies.

Either way, it looks pretty much like its going to be more of the same as RE5. It actually had me interested at the start with the dark streets and standard zombies… Then it cut to what i can only honestly call; ‘RE5′s bullshit’.

  18. absolutezero

According to most sources its the samething thats happened with 3DS Resi aswell. Half of the game is Mansion inspired creeping horror and atmosphere and the other half is Chris punching things. Like Capcom is a deer stuck in on coming traffic and it does’nt know which side of the road to run to.

You have to choose though Capcom, you have to choose.

I was just thinking. Isn’t announcing a new, fully numbered / main Resident Evil game kinda going to hurt the sales of the TWO upcoming other RE projects this year (Op Raccoon city & Revelations). Heck, at least Revelations is a handheld game but ORP is a HD console game for PS3 and 360, where now RE6 is coming too as well.

I think that even Capcoms expectations for ORC are so low they probably dont give a shit. Though to be fair the games do looks vastly different from one another, i guess we really have to see what type of MP RE6 will have (and it will have MP).

    Details:

The game has co-op. It is confirmed.
Leon and Chris will work together. They are both playable. For the first time ever, these two characters will be in a same game.
    Ashley seems to be back.
The game is action oriented. Capcom are calling it ‘dramatic horror’.
The game is set 10 years after the Racoon city incident.
There will be multiple playable characters.
The graphics are much improved over Resident Evil 5. It looks much more crispy and features a lot of neat visual effects. The lighting and textures are also impressive.
China is under threat from a bio-terror attack.
The game is a globe-trotting adventure.
There will be a deep melee combat system
The game seems to be going back to the “horror” roots of the older Resident Evil games while also keeping the action at an all time high.
Chris’ gameplay will probably feature cover based shooting, as seen in the video at 1:52 and 2:45.
The ability to slide into cover will also be featured into game, as seen at 2:45.
Players can also sprint this time around, as seen at 1:44.
There is a new character in the game. He is an ex-mercenary, by the looks of it, and is also a playable character.
The game will have diverse shooting, more than just the traditional Resident Evil over-the-shoulder gameplay style.
There seems to be a large focus on set-pieces, and maybe even a few vehicle sections

I’d get this for sure. However, I will wait for the inevitable Gold, Complete, Deluxe version or whatever. I know Capcom is going to release one. Just a matter of when. Other then that, I wonder who the main villain will be now that Wesker is presumably dead.

Half of it looks good, the other half looks like a complete disaster. Capcom do the same thing they did with DmC: Give it to someone more competent.

Facial animation is still bad and the redesign of Leon doesn look like him at all.

New Character looks bland and i don’t understand why they need to include Ashley again. She was annoying. Also not a fan of the pseudo drama.

Just give us a Remake of Resident Evil 2 and never do anything else again. Capcom really is the George Lucas of Videogames.

    32: That’s more than one.

@37: It’s not that i don’t like Chris, you’d see that, if you could read.

It’s just that i don’t like Resident Evil to be an action game. If you’d pay any attention (I know, it’s hard) you’d see how the Chris Part is definitely more action oriented. This what you want? So be it, but don’t go around and call yourself a Resident Evil Fan.

No one wanted Chris and Leon togethor, Jesus where the hell did you get that from?

I must say, that was impressive. Also impressive that they managed to keep this quiet for as long as they did in today’s industry of leaks. No tiny teaser, that was a fully fleshed out, well put together fucking hell of a trailer. That may as well have been a launch trailer it had so much variety in it.

This game is coming along nicely. I didn’t think Capcom could do it. So far so good. Now, bring on the mansion…

Seems Leons partner is going to be the woman from Degeneration : http://bit.ly/y9eGnC the one thats standing next to Leon.

New guy might be Alex Wesker aka Hunk, which also explains the meds like Wesker had to take. Fuck knows.

Its all over the place such a schizo trailer, three different games mushed togethor one of which has a hint of Resident Evil. Really the Ashley and new guy part looks more like Serious Sam 3 than RE.

If I want to play the Leon game, and I am really put off and not interested by whatever the heck Chris is up to, so that I wouldn’t want to play through that just to reach more of the Leon game. In that case it puts any narrative that Capcom tries to do in a position that is going to be problematic to deliver and convey, if I find I’m not enjoying blocks of the game, and that’s where the focus is placed. Chris is bad, outside of RE1 and maybe CV. I never much liked the character anyway. In the first game, his inclusion and value is clear. He offers an alternate, more challenging playthrough of the game than is intended while playing as Jill.

Being asked to weigh up how much I want to play “Leon” style, versus how much I tolerate Chris gameplay, and how much the whole thing costs to get these enjoyable instances of game…or just say screw it, and get something without the compromises needing to be brought in to the price that’s out at the time of late November, this year.

I think this game will be great, i love RE4 and for me it is the best resident evil game on the franchise, it has horror mixed with action in a neat way,for me it was the best game of last gen, sorry baten kaitos, i did enjoy five but like so many people mentioned co-op ruined the horror-scarier asspect of the game, now i think the co-op in this game will be handle differently than in the previous one, because capcom know this, so i think they will handle better this asspect in the new game, really i cannot wait for this game.
