Quick quotes: Beyond Good and Evil “should not have been updated,” says JAW boss
“I loved the GoW 1 and 2 remakes, personally I think they were better than GoW3, and I’m also looking forward to playing the Team ICO titles. As for others I’m not sure. I think Beyond Good and Evil should not have been updated, as it’s only gone to show what rose-tinted glasses we had in the old days.” – Just Add Water boss Stewart Gilray, speaking to SI on HD remasters.
JAW recently released a HD version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath for PSN, and is continuing work on the series as a whole. BG&E HD released last year for PSN and XBLA.

I played all the way through BG&E HD at the end of last year and thought it held up pretty well considering its age. The camera’s a bit wonky and it’s rather more limited than modern games, but it’s still very playable and the original cartoon styling lends itself well to a quick up-res and polish-up.
I’d be interested to hear just what it is about BG&E that he thinks doesn’t hold up but the GoW and Ico updates (and, I surmise, the Strangers’ Wrath revamp) manage okay.

I’m wondering if it’s the graphics, maybe. They didn’t exactly go out of their way to update them for this gen, especially not compared to what was done with Stranger’s Wrath.
I didn’t mind, really, but maybe that’s what he’s referencing.

BG&E was a slick, faithful recreation of a classic. Nowt fartin about with, just HD and smooth.
Exactly what was needed, exactly what was delivered. This JAW tool is just trolling.

well I think it is wise to have done it if they want to maximise sale on number 2

These games actually don’t translate well into current gen, they were usually stylized with sdtvs and ps2 in mind.
