Cross-demo promotion announced for Mass Effect 3 and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Wednesday, 11th January 2012 15:03 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Playing the upcoming demos for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3 will unlock special “inspired” items for both games, all of which were designed by Reckoning artist Todd McFarlane.

By playing the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo, gamers will receive two unlocks for Mass Effect 3:

  • Reckoner Knight Armor: This armor will maximize damage done in close-quarters combat while a beefed–up power cell feeds energy into weapon systems to increase projectile velocity.
  • The Chakram Launcher: This weapon uses a fabricator to manufacture lightweight, explosive ammunition discs. This weapon is earned after completing the Reckoning demo and watching the trailer at the end.

Playing the Mass Effect 3 demo will unlock the following items for Reckoning:

  • N7 Armor: Players can unlock special armor inspired by Commander Shepard’s iconic N7 battle armor including Helm, Cuirass, Gauntlets, Chausses and Greaves.
  • Onmiblade Daggers: A holographic blade stemming from Commander Shepard’s Omni-Tool, the Omni-blade allows players to stab enemies in close combat. Once players install and play the Mass Effect 3 demo, they will unlock the daggers.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to deliver this massive one-two punch with Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Mass Effect 3,” said Curt Schilling, chairman and founder of 38 Studios. “We wanted to provide fans of the Mass Effect franchise with a unique set of rewards for diving into the expansive universe of Reckoning,”

The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning demo features the introduction to the game, allowing players to experience the game’s Tutorial Mode and a portion of its large, open world. The demo will feature around 45 minutes of gameplay.

A demo for Mass Effect 3 will be released prior to launch, while the demo for Reckoning will release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 January 17.

Shots of the items available from playing the demos are posted below.

Well considering ME3 is definitely a day one and Reckoning is shaping up to be the same… this is pretty much a done deal.

Exactly why are you hating on this?

You play a demo, and you unlock stuff for another game….i actually really really like that idea. They could have made those armours and weapons into some idiotic pre-order or CE DLC, but no. Let’s be happy about this, i know i am.

Hmmm… Free pre-order armour I actually think looks decent? Surely the end of days?

I like this idea a lot, now i have a question, if i play the amalaur demo on the ps3 and the mass effect demo on 360, i will do receive this items too for each console as well?, because iam planing to do the purchase this way, or i need to have both of them on the same console?

#7 well if i tell you the truth i was planning to get the games on different consoles, just to support each console equally, i know its silly but thats how i do it,of course when the games are equal on both consoles, mass effect 3 i will get it for sure on the 360 cause i have the prior games on it, and then amalur i want to get it on ps3 just to support sony too, as much as microsoft, if you see my shelve theres almost the same quantity of tittles on both consoles, for instance i have all the four mayor sports on the 2 consoles, MLK 2011 and NBA 2011 on the PS3 and FIFA 2011 with NHL 2011 on 360, just to keep things equal between the two consoles.

But if the thing is not sure i have to get them both on the same console which will be 360 for the reasons mentioned above.

P.S or maybe is because iam a ninty zealot, thats what i been called here 8D

If I remember correctly Mass Effect 2 and Dragon age had a similar thing going and it was all depending on what system the game was played in that you got the Blood Dragon Armor. So that’s why I suggest just play the 2 demos on each of the consoles just to ensure you get the items you wantso then you will have your Mass Effect items from playing Amalur on the 360 and Mass Effect 3 on your PS3 to get Amalur items.
