Hi-Rez: Tribes Universe on hold, priority for now is Ascend

Hi-Rez Studios has indicated that MMO Tribes Universe is on hold, noting the main focus for the IP right now is shooter Ascend.

In a Q&A, CEO Todd Harris told PC PowerPlay Magazine that it would continue to further explore the Tribes and Starsiege IPs.

"Our studio is a huge fan of the previous Tribes games," said Harris. "So after we acquired the rights to Tribes our first goal was to get the movement and physics and combat feeling right.

"When we made enough progress toward that goal we decided to release a pure match-based shooter ahead of any MMO and that shooter became Ascend. We do still intend to further explore the Tribes and Starsiege IP with future projects, but right now our Tribes dev team is working only on Ascend."

The free-to-play shooter entered into beta last year, but a date for its full release on PC and Xbox 360 hasn't been announced. MMO Universe was announced back in 2010.
