Japanese Vita shifts 321,000 units in first two days

Tuesday, 20th December 2011 04:12 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Reports out of Japan put the Vita’s launch figures well ahead of the PSP’s debut, but significantly below that of the rival 3DS.

Famitsu reports Enterbrain has recorded 321,407 Vita consoles sold in its first two days on sale in Japan, December 17 and 18.

Based on current sales data, Enterbrain estimates the console’s first week sales will reach 1.4 million.

For comparison, the Japanese launch of the 3DS saw 371,326 units sold in the first two days, a good 50,000 more, before sales stymied ahead of the August price cut.

The PSP, which went on to become one of the country’s best-selling consoles, moved around 166,074 units on its first day; figures for its second day are not available.

Japanese retailers reported demand for the new console did not exhaust initial shipment stock, which rumours had at about 700,000 units.

Thanks, Erren.

It’s strange, because according to previous news, there was 85% of wi-fi and 56% of 3G model sales, which is much bigger than 321k units.

  5. warcen elite if ps vita dont get that low i can belive on the 3ds. and the 3ds launch was it not sold 30k not 350k. i remember the shocking launch in japan when the psp sold more then the 3ds on it own launch. psp 37000 and 3ds 30000, your numbers i think its from usa and europe and japan. with thos sales 3ds sold more but that was in the world. and the privecut gave 220 000 units sold in japan not a half million.and this numbers you have on the vita is only from 1 retailer not any of the online retailers who was sold out. i think it sold more then 500k because of the high preorders

Well I’m happy with my Vita. Playing some Uncharted and Katamari and loving it.

Also read a report somewhere that about 90% also purchased a memory card & that there’s a 1:1 hardware to software ratio. I’d assume that in the early stages of the PSV cycle, the biggest margins will probably come from their memory cards.
