Bioware announces Command & Conquer: Generals 2 for 2013

Sunday, 11th December 2011 01:31 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Bioware’s announced Command & Conquer: Generals 2 during tonight’s the VGAs, confirming a 2013 release for PC only.

It’ll be powered by Frostbite 2, the engine made internally at DICE for Battlefield 3. Victory Games will be handling development as BioWare Victory.

Dr Ray is, naturally, pleased about tonight’s announcement.

“We’re bringing BioWare’s vision for emotionally engaging gameplay and great attention to quality to the strategy genre and the Command & Conquer franchise,” said BioWare label GM Muzyka.

“I am excited to welcome BioWare Victory to our label. They are a great addition and the team is working hard to make sure Generals 2 truly immerses and engages players into this intense, gritty, modern war experience.”

Executive producer Jon Van Caneghem added: “With Generals 2, we are bringing the Command & Conquer franchise back to its roots, blending strategic gameplay with fast-paced action — all set in visually stunning theaters of war powered by Frostbite 2.”

Asked why Generals 2 if there was concern in having the game as a PC exclusive, Van Caneghem said in a GameSpot interview it was to “re-establish the franchise as one of the key players in the strategy genre and the best way for us to do that is on PC.”

First shots and teaser are below.

    Fuck yeah!
Been waiting for this for ages!
However, i’m worried that Bioware is the dev behind it. I have all the respect in the world for them, but they don’t exactly have a reputation or experience in RTS games such as Blizzard with WarCraft and StarCraft :/

Wow, I’m surprised at people saying from the teaser it was C&C. Pleasant surprised though.

After seeing the trailer and the 2013 release date. Seems really underwhelming.

    Depends really.

If it is FPS than FUCK IT.

If it is RTS than maybe.

If RTS is on 360, PS3 and PC – fuck it.

Bioware to me never did something like RTS before so i can’t say if it’s going to be a really good game, but to be honest sounds like shitty developers from Los angeles EA were renamed to Bioware. I’m not impressed even if they are going to use Frost 2.

Something id like everyone of you to know: Even though this says Bioware, the game isnt actually made by the Bioware you know. Its being developed by a studio called “Victory Games”. EA just turned them into a Bioware Studio, so they could slap the Bioware-name on it. Im not saying thats a bad thing, just thought youd like to know ;)

It is sort of the next step of making the Bioware name mean absolutely nothing though.

I’m surprised that it’s a C&C game though. I thought it had “Krush Kill and Destroy” written all over it. Which would be way better in every sense of the word.

    Found this ^^

You’ve got no idea how anticipated this game is within the C&C community do you? :P

This is NOT BioWare i.e. Mass Effect and Dragon Age. This is that new studio called Victory Games (revealed to be working on the new C&C earlier this year) being folded into the BioWare name.

BioWare as a single development studio does not exist anymore. It’s an EA brand.

I’ve been hoping for a Generals 2 for a while but this just doesn’t look good. It looks too futuristic :/ Look at those tank designs! WTF IS THAT!

@14 I liked it too, but they’re only anticipating it like that because they never played KKnD. Clearly.

Having Bioware handle this makes sense as it will be littered with ‘story’. IGN have more info –

Claims to be PC exclusive as well

Hard to judge on this until more info is released but I will stick to End of Nations thanks.

I think the biggest confusion that people are having here is the inclusion of the BioWare name.

A while back, the BioWare name basically became its own division in Electronic Arts. It’s no longer simply the name of a single studio, and it hasn’t been for the a very long time.

It’s just an across-the-board label at this point, like the E.A. Sports brand name. Don’t read into it too much.

Bioware have been doing a pretty damn good job of ruining their own name anyway so whats another nail in the coffin?

Looks like a long overdue return to form!

@21 And that’s the actual problem. There was a time when Bioware meant “RPG worth playing”. Today they’ve all but gotten rid of that.

It’s not the fact that Bioware is getting borg’ed, it’s the fact that it makes their brand mean nothing.
