First developer diary released for MechWarrior Online

Piranha Games has published the first developer diary for MechWarrior Online and it contains information on the free-to-play title's factions and timeline, the later of which corresponds interestingly with the actual calender.

According to the diary: “Each day that passes here on Earth also passes in the virtual MechWarrior Online Inner Sphere: Wednesday December 7th, 2011 is Wednesday December 7th, 3048.”

The various factions in the game are divided by regions and sub-areas and since everything is in real-time, alliances and the power balance is always shifting.

Progress is up to how many Loyalty Points with the factions are earned, but pplayers will have to be careful which faction they show allegiance to, as certain actions can cause progressing through any faction's ranks to be difficult or non-existent.

MechWarrior Online is being built using CryEngine 3, and it's to release exclusively on PC in summer 2012.
