Japanese charts: 3DS sales soar due to Mario Kart 7

Media Create has released its weekly sales chart, and unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 7 is king of the software chart with 423,619 units moved. It also contributed to almost a doubling of 3DS sales over the prior week.

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata mentioned yesterday the game had sold through over 420,000 units.

Namco's Gundam Extreme VS debuted a close second with 349,756 units moved for PS3, and Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Revelation hit the three spot with 39,947 units sold.

Last week's best-seller, The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, fell to fourth place, but managed to move another 32,191 units for the week, while Nintendo's Fortune Street Wi moved 27,640 units, putting it in fifth place.

All in all, there were eight new releases for the week in the top 20, as noted in Media Create's chart below. Last week's figures are in parenthesis and can also be found here.
