Master Chief to look a bit different in Halo 4, Cortana in danger once again
Details on Master Chief and Cortana in Halo 4 have been revealed through the latest issue of Xbox World.

According to an interview with 343′s Frank O’Connor, Master Chief’s armor have been given some “fairly radical modifications” some of which are “connected to the story,” and the fact he’s been in space for such a log time.
Also, Cortana is once again in danger, but this time it’s because her expiration date is looming.
“Seven years is the lifespan for a smart AI before it enters a state called rampancy,” said O’Connor. “Cortana was getting close to the end of her natural lifespan at the end of Halo 3 but she has been exposed to far more information than any other AI in existence.
“She’s going to develop some muscle from that process but it also contributes to her rampancy – that much information makes things worse.”
Halo 4′s story, the first in the planned trilogy, will focus on the Forerunners and is something O’Connor hopes will bring back “the sense of wonder and mystery” to the Halo series.
“We’re definitely going back to that air of exploration, and putting in some surprises that I think people will like,” he said.
Halo 4 is slated for a 2012 release.

Radical changes to armour? Fanboy rage imminent!
P.s. In space a log time? He up their cutting wood? Earning gold for Skyrim?

can´t wait for more halo 4 news. this doesn´t sound too shabby. i don´t care much about changes in the armourdesign of the chief as long as it makes sense in the story and it will rock gameplaywise. back to exploration sounds great. the cortana twist could become interesting too. she really must be overdue now. i am slightly concerend about what 343 will make with one of my favorite franchises. i try to be optimistic.

@4 just keep the core gameplay in touch and I’m happy. The big reason I like Halo is due to the fact that they are different from the clone FPS franchise that most people buy.

@6 it wont be the covenant (the aliens in all the halo games) it will either be the forunners (the aliens who made halo and all living things) or something completely different

@6
I’ve read Halo: Cryptum which takes place during the fall of the Forerunner civilisation and the original firing of the Halos. It implies that a race who preceded the Forerunners; appropriately known as the Precursors are out for revenge against them.
I won’t spoil the plot but they are described as being 15 meters tall with four arms and two legs (a massive interstellar Goro if you will).
Anyhow 343 have been saying the villains will be an ancient evil so I’m guessing it will be these guys.

I thought Cortana had already entered a state of Rampancy towards the beginning of Halo 3?
