Dream dreamer – Half-Life 3 t-shirt spotted on “Valve employee”

@Ekanaut, a marketing chap at Monday Night Combat dev UberEnt, spotted this at “at a local game developer event worn by a Valve employee.” Keep the faith, boys.

I’m taking this as a troll rather than confirmation the game is anywhere near completion ;-)

They’re just trolling their own fanbase now.

It’s so unfair to tease that. I can’t possibly believe it, but it’s a great T, nonetheless.

Could this be announced at the VGAs?

@7 Valve is bigger than the VGAs, they can make an announcement to millions of people any time they want. More people are logged into Steam all day every day than Spike TV could ever hope to get in viewers for anything they broadcast… Last year only 627,000 people were watching the VGAs:

If they announce this at VGA, i will go nuts! But nah, probably not.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced it at the VGAs. But who knows, we could hear about it @ E3 2012 or a pre-E3 event…or we won’t hear about it until it’s a launch title for next gen consoles. I guess at least Valve keeps things interesting and keeps us guessing.

But this is real stuff, i’m sure they woulnd’t just make that t-shirt for fun. They know how much fans are waiting for this one.

@15

Its for employees which Valve only employs 100 people or so. Cost of 100 shirts is dirt cheap.

They can just make them to keep the idea of it alive but it not being in production.

That’s true man, but i hope not. It’s about DAMN time they’d make one, what are they waiting for anyway? Now some people on another forum are saying could this be the ‘PS3 exclusive you won’t believe ‘ That Gametrailers promised…but i don’t believe that for a second.

@15 “i’m sure they woulnd’t just make that t-shirt for fun.”

Because people never make t-shirts for fun? Dude, what planet are you from? :P

@ 18

No no, don’t misunderstand me. I’m talking about people who work at Valve, i doubt they’d make a shirt like that for fun. And this was worn by a Valve employee.

If any game is going to end this generation its going to be Half Life 3.

@19 I think it’s wishful thinking. Portal 2 amazed me in terms of how much juice they pulled from the source engine, so I guess they “could” make Half-Life 3, but Valve being who they are, I would almost think they’d make a Source 2 if they were going there.

I think it’s more likely that Valve employees simply aren’t immune to the jokes about the company. Valve games are essentially vaporware right up until the point where they aren’t, you know? :P

@21

But if they want the game for a Source 2 engine, why aren’t they making it, or why hasn’t it been made already? I’m not sure..,.but how long has it been since HL2 and the two episodes?

@22 The way I see it, Source looked gorgeous in Portal 2, but Portal 2 was a highly segmented laboratory where loading screens weren’t all that important. I don’t think they can really do the same with Half-Life after HL2 with all the cityscapes.

They’re gonna have to do something more than just wider corridors.

If it exists, then at this point either HL3 is done and just around the corner, or they run the risk of releasing a pretty ancient game… Or they’re working on something else… Or they’re taking their time and making sure that they have proper tech to make HL3 with.

HL3 on current tech at Valve would be a waste imo.

Valve has stated multiple times that they will be using the source engine for this entire gen. They have no plans currently for SOurce 2. So if Valve is making HL3 for this gen it will be on the SOurce engine. If not then we have to wait 3 -4 more years with the New gen consoles.

not sure on this, but iirc newell said in an interview that if they make hl3 it will be on a new engine. they see hl as their starting point for new engines.
hope im not mixing things up here.

I think Valve underestimated this generation, and hoped we would already be into the next gen by now because each of their full Half Life games were the one of the high points for their generation. So my guess is that they’re deciding to wait until next gen so they can wow us once again while allowing people to have caught up with upgrading pcs, consoles etc.

Announce at the VGAs for HL3 would be huge! I don’t know how likely, but still…Huge! Gaming’s next “Diablo” (it’s done when it’s done, y’ hear) could be just round the corner.
