Quick Quotes – Epic on Gears of War 3′s on-disc DLC files
“We’re not saying that everything on the disc is the product. The disc is another delivery mechanism. We had begun DLC packs early enough, and with the extension to our schedule. It meant we had that stuff done before we shipped. We felt it was a win/win, because no one is going to have to download anything huge when the DLC comes out.
“I think the thing that makes it muddy for people is when it’s on the disc. We could have left it off and said, ‘Hey, here’s another disc.’”
– Gears of War 3 executive producer Rod Fregusson responding to Kotaku‘s questions about the game’s on-disc, paid DLC.

Quick Quotes: Hayashi – There’s not a “great need anytime soon” for next-gen consoles
“I think the only way to still see some potential come out of current-gen consoles is improvement in graphics. This will really depend on the skill of CG designers, but any further dramatic evolution in current consoles that could be plainly understood by the general gamer would be fairly difficult to achieve…. I don’t think there is a great need anytime soon for the next generation of consoles to advance the industry. I say this because I believe that gamers thirst for great content, which doesn’t necessarily rely on new console hardware as there are other options to produce a good console game experience. A good and captivating game is just that. As a an avid gamer I can still see myself playing on X360 and PS3 for a bit longer since there continues to be great new games. In order to advance the gaming industry into the future, performance on its own is not the key.” – Yosuke Hayashi, Team Ninja leader to Industry Gamers.

Xbox 360 has sold over 57 million units worldwide
Major Nelson has tweeted that Xbox 360 has moved over 57 million units worldwide since it was launched six year ago. The firm reported in its latest financial results that the console moved 2.3 million units for Q1 FY12, and for the last nine months it was the “best-selling” console. Compared to the latest Sony figures from September 30, the Seattle-based firm is ahead of PS3 ‘s 55.5 million units by 1.5 million. When comparing millions, those figures seem close, but if you add Nintendo into the equation, Microsoft and Sony’s sales pale in comparison to Wii, which as of September 30 has moved 89 million units worldwide.
