Quick Quotes: Weapons will reflect Infinite’s “much greater ranges”, says Levine
“In the original BioShock, the entire game lived in one corner of [a] graph – few enemies, all at close range — so the Electro Bolt and shotgun were perfect. BioShock Infinite is going to have much greater ranges and, potentially, far more enemies, so we’re greatly increasing the spectrum of encounters that are possible, and that requires the player use a broader set of tools. That being said, it may be a given player will try to find a way to close down those distances and stick with Electro Bolt and shotgun, but I don’t think that’s going to be anywhere near as effective a strategy this time around. They were too devastating in BioShock, we admit that, but we’re not going to solve it by simply nerfing those weapons; we’re doing it by changing the types of encounter you’re going to face.” – Irrational’s Ken Levine to the PS Blog (via Joystiq).

ESA: A little over half of US households own a gaming console
Figures released by the ESA, and shown during the 9th Annual Digital Entertainment Conference by NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime, show that 72% of US households play video games. In 2007, the figure stood at 67%, with gains and declines happening over the past four years of console and/or PC gaming usage. While types of games weren’t noted, it’s assumed these figures also include mobile and social titles as well. The number of households with game consoles has gone from 43.1% in 2010 to 50.5% in 2011, which broken down, has Wii in 31.2% of households, Xbox 360 in 14% of homes, and PS3 in 10.6% of US households. Quick Quotes: Reggie on Nintendo’s decision making process
“When everyone agrees that there’s a change coming, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the change or the outcome is easy to predict. What maybe seemed like foolproof bets even a matter of weeks ago now seem a little less certain. Nintendo needs to make decisions not only by instinct and experience, but also based on where the market is, and a determination of where the market might be headed. New forms of games are growing, but not necessarily at the expense of other forms of games.” – NOA President Reggie Fils-Aime at the19th Annual Digital Entertainment Conference attended by IndustryGamers.

UbiWorkshop releases launch trailer for Assassin’s Creed:Embers
Ubisoft has released the launch trailer for its animated short, Assassin’s Creed: Embers. Created by UbiWorkshop, the film will be included as a bonus in signature and collector’s editions of Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Announced back in July,Embers is the final epilogue to Ezio’s story, and Ubisoft suggests players watch the entire thing after finishing Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. This will not only help players fully understand Ezio’s complete story, but also not spoil things for them in the process.
There’s no word just yet on whether the events in Embers tie-in with the Assassin’s Creed coming in 2012. If we were gamblers, we’d lay our chips on red, though. Watch the video clip below, and mind, it may or may not spoil things for you.
