Red 5 focuses on PvP when balancing Firefall's classes

In a new developer diary, Red 5 Studios outline the process of balancing classes in Firefall.

"Designing and balancing around a game that has both PvE and PvP is more of a challenge," lead class designer Dave Williams said.

"We really like to focus on the PvP when it comes to pure numbers balancing. We focus on the PvP gameplay when it comes to balancing one class to another."

Williams said PvE balancing is better accomplished through tweaking of the environment rather than classes; if one class is out-performing another, the designers may make changes to how enemies move, for example.

Red 5 looks to player feedback to highlight problems, with Williams giving an example of the announce of the Dreadnaught battleframe

"There were some people that were really concerned that the assault was the heavy class, for example," he said.

"But for us, the assault was all about being a wolverine class, shredding people apart with offensive aggression. Where as the Dreadnaught is a very different style of gameplay."
