No player death in The Secret World

Tuesday, 22nd November 2011 02:26 GMT By Brenna Hillier

To avoid breaking the real world setting of the Secret World, players won’t die.

“There is actually no player death in The Secret World,” creator Ragnar Tørnquist said in a video interview with Gamespot.

“We don’t want to remove you from the universe, and having you die in a game set in the modern day world that’s supposed to feel realistic would just be kind of odd.”

Instead, players fall unconscious, and may be separated from their physical bodies, locked in a shadow world.

“While you’re in the spirit state in The Secret World you might see things that are invisible to players who are conscious. You might have certain missions that might have to be solved inside this spirit world,” he added, refusing to give details.

Tørnquist also briefly discussed – or rather, teased – the game’s social network integration, customisable user interface, and crafting system, as well as discussing the game’s freeform character progression which negates the need for alts.

Watch the full thing below. The Secret World is expected in April 2012, exclusively for PC.

    How does this make sense?

He means that repeated reincarnation of disembodied souls is retarded, so they merely called an identical mechanic something else, while describing scenarios that have already been done in WoW ages ago.

Excellent idea, Mr. Tørnquist. This new system is sure to feel much more realistic.

    ‘Shadow world’ = more realism…

Mmm, anyone else thing that just sounds plain retarded?

Having said that, looking forward to this :)

Death or no death, this is the next MMO I’m looking forward to play. SWTOR ain’t gonna be available in my country anyway, they blocked access to their website and they send me beta key, oh the irony.. The launcher can’t even log in to download 20GB of data. This is retarded really.

How does that make anymore sence?

You don’t die because that would be too unrealistic, instead you enter a shadow world where you might be able to do stuff…
Come on just listen to your own logic. Really just drop that shadow world that is even more lame than being able to not die.

10 years later, and Tørnquist is still spouting nonsense.
