Yakuza 5 set in five cities, first details spill from Famitsu

Famitsu’s dropped the first Yakuza 5 details, following on from its announcement before Tokyo Game Show in September.

The magazine (via Andriasang) says the game’ll be exclusive once again to PlayStation 3, but the big switch is that there’ll be locations in five Japanese cities in the game this time: Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Fukuoka.

Kazuma will be the main character once again, although it’s unknown if he’ll be the sole playable character or if there’ll be more, following Yakuza 4 and Yakuza of The End.

In an interview with the mag, producer Toshihiro Nagoshi said Yakuza 5′s story would follow directly after Yakuza 4, not zombie spin-off Of The End.

There’ll also be presentation improvements, such as quicker load times and better camerawork, benefits from the team working on Binary Domain.

Y5 is currently in the early stages of development, according to Famitsu.

Yakuza’s one of the few series I miss since defecting. Shame they haven’t gone multi-format yet, although I can probably understand why.

I love this series. Can’t wait for EU release of Of The End, which is renamed to Yakuza: Dark Soul for the West. Good to know we’ll get another one eventually.
@1: Well, that’s why it’s never wise to hurry. I remember back in 2007 360 had a huge advantage over PS3 (game library/multiplatfrom quality), now it’s exactly opposite.

And anyway… I want Kenzan!, SEGA!

Were Yakuza 3 and 4 big enough successes in the US and Europe? Otherwise it’s not certain yet if we’ll even see Y5.
