Rayman Origins reviews show critical love

Platformers may not be the most fashionable genre, but Michael Ancel’s beautifully animated take on Ubisoft’s mascot has drawn solid review scores for Rayman Origins.

Rayman Origins releases on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and Wii in the US on November 15, and arrives in Australia and Europe on November 24 and 25 respectively. 3DS and Vita versions are expected at a later date. It has co-op multiplayer and boasts native HD visuals; the purpose-built middleware behind the game will be going open-source.

Nothing below an 8 so far. Looking pretty good then – which Ubisoft has hinted could mean good things for Beyond Good & Evil hopefuls.

The reviews below are mainly based on the Xbox 360 version, with the Wii release not pulling much attention yet. As always, list other scores you find in the comments below.

So just to be clear, this is a disc only release, right?

So a 2D platformer gets better scores than Assassins Creed Revelations? Awesome!

@2 Why wouldn’t it?

It’s original, inventive, well designed, and looks amazing to boot.

Your genre bias does not a valid opinion make.

Great scores for a great game. Makes me really sad that this game is gonna bomb due to stupidity of Ubisoft shown by releasing their 2D platformer in the same month as Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3 and Assassin’s Creed R.

Oh I see, you guys think my comment was ironic, sorry guys, you’re absolutely mistaken. I salute Ancel and his team for his work, I just didn’t expect reviewers giving a crap about a 2D platformer these days, that’s why I’m kinda surprised.

@7 Hahahaha! Nicely played.

Called it cynicism. It’s unfortunately rampant around here.

It getting great scores because they nailed it,it plays just like the first and best rayman from ps1 days but has gone HD,the only way to revamp instead of try and go 3d,!cough sonic!
Saying that,sonic generations is actually a step in the right direction too.
