EA forum bans blocking players from Battlefield 3

Ongoing issues with EA’s systems mean flaming a forum has nastier consequences than usual.

Rock Paper Shotgun has collated a number of recent reports of players receiving permanent bans from the EA forums, resulting in a lock out from their Origin accounts and all the purchased games therein – including Battlefield 3.

EA is yet to respond with comment, and customer service has been unable to provide assistance beyond continuing to state that affected users have violated the forum terms and services. Concerningly, many users report lifetime bans which appear to skip several steps in EA’s policy or arbitrarily apply inappropriate guidelines – but then again nobody ever thinks they deserve a ban.

The Origin lock out was described as an “error” by EA when the problem was first noted in March, but recent incidents suggest a fix is yet to be implemented.

Thanks, Gamefront.

I wonder how many more times that headline has to happen before they actually fix it.

a great way for a company to lose a huge number of people. Also a good reason not to own origin.

EA need to urgently refocus on who they actually are. Banning someone from a forum for bad behaviour I can understand but to lock them out of a game that they have PAID money for proves just how much this company are a bunch of tits.

There’s a real simple solution to this situation…don’t be a fucking asshole

You guys can blame EA all you want but if these people weren’t big enough dicks to get banned then they wouldn’t have a problem right now…so they deserve to have to deal w/ the inconvenience…after all the shit I have to hear when playing every multiplayer out there, but by far the worst on CoD, I have no sympathy for these loud mouth assholes…they reap what they sew…good riddance

@7 – I know how much you love kissing EA’s butt but seriously – if someone acts like a tit on a forum, they should get banned from playing ALL the games that they PAID for?

Getting banned from the forum – sure, thats their own fault, if they are abusive IN game and are banned, again thats their own fault but to ban someone from playing a GAME is just another piss take from EA who have forgotten their role in life – to entertain.

And this kind of crap has been going on since 2008 – come on EA, get a grip.

This happens with every EA game. You know its a real simple fix separate the forum ban from origin. This has happened multiple times and every time it gets fixed but EA keeps the system doing what it is doing.

@10 I’m not saying they should get banned from playing the games they paid for through Origin, and I’m not saying EA has no fault in the matter…it obviously was overlooked by EA that linking Origin accounts and EA accounts would cause users banned on the forums to be unable to access their games through Origin…I’m just saying if you’re that much of a jerk that you get banned on the forums you deserve it and I have no sympathy towards their inconvenience…obviously EA will eventually rectify the situation but maybe they’ll think twice about being total jerkoffs next time in order to avoid further issues such as this one…

Or maybe they’ll just think twice before buying an EA game.

Generally responses that are way out of proportion, or just rooted in general and repeated cases of incompetence don’t impress people. It just disappoints them.

@13 well that’s EA’s problem, not mine, I could care less…EA is obviously stupid for overlooking that issue and should probably fire some people for missing it, and they will have to deal with the sales they’ve lost…and the people who got banned will have to deal with not being able to access games they paid for as a result of being an idiot…I have no sympathy for either side, but like I said you have to be a pretty big jerk to get banned and deserve to have to deal w/ the inconvenience of the situation

Plus I do think its wrong to say for people to say “fuck EA” (comment 3) for banning people who were clearly assholes…and to say “fuck Origin” (comment 3) for its mere existence, if you want to play EA games, quit whining and just use Origin instead of being such a baby about it…

And thats why I didnt buy BF3

There’s a on youtube showing just how EA’s spyware works and what data its mining. Disgraceful behaviour.

Actually the bans aren’t always for people being asses. One guy posted a legit link to a network guide on his blog, which somehow got him permanently banned for “posting a commercial link”. It wasn’t commercial. And indeed the guide had been used/linked by EA themselves to assist in technical support.

Also this whole thing has been going on months. EA have definitely failed here.
