OnLive UK userbase is at “millions,” says CEO

OnLive has seen a UK userbase of “millions,” CEO Steve Perlman has said.

Speaking to MCV, Perlman would give an exact specific number on the amount of users in the UK, but the figure will no doubt have been helped by heavy pre-launch promotion and the free micro-console giveaway at Eurogamer Expo in September.

“The growth in the UK has been faster than when we launched in the US,” he said. “It went beyond what we ever imagined. Overwhelmed is not even the word. The numbers in the UK are ten times what we projected.”

The micro-console is set to go on sale in GAME stores in the UK by the end of the year, but is currently being sold via OnLive‘s website.

I like the idea of Onlive, but anyone who has limits on the amount of data in one month is going to go through that in a matter of hours.

Personally I can see this kind of system working better if it is intergrated into Virgin/Sky boxes and offered much like the On Demand TV services.

^ that’s a great idea trav – had never thought of that.

I’m unlimited (as any respectful person would be), but I still get a massive variance in the image quality, and a warning on start-up to say that my connection is barely sufficient (or something along those lines).

I get that warning too if I’m playing on wifi, it’s bulletproof over ethernet though.

Especially as I read that it uses about 2-5gig PER HOUR playing games… Thank god I’m with BT and therefore my Onlive usage doesn’t count towards my ‘fair use’ policy.
